'Best TV show of 2022': Fans elated as ‘Severance’ bags Best New Series honor at the 2023 WGA Awards

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The writers of this season’s top films and series face off tonight at the Writers Guild of America Awards, the final awards ceremony before next week’s 95th Academy awards better known as Oscars. The WGAs are not televised but rather held at concurrent ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York City. 'Abbott Elementary' star Janelle James hosted the West Coast edition, while comedian Michelle Buteau ('First Wives Club,' and 'The Circle') is leading the New York festivities.

Regardless, the science fiction psychological thriller television series was created by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller and Aoife McArdle. It stars Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Jen Tullock, Dichen Lachman, Michael Chernus, John Turturro, Christopher Walken, and Patricia Arquette. Furthermore, the Apple TV+ series received 14 nominations at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Drama Series and acting nods for Scott, Turturro, Walken, and Arquette.

Other nominees got severed as 'Severance' bagged the award

The official Twitter page of the Writers Guild Awards announced Apple TV+ 'Severance' as the winner for Outstanding New Series. They captioned the post, "And the winner is…Severance for Outstanding New Series."



 

'Deserved, best TV show'

Many fans congratulated and celebrated the success of their favorite series. A fan said, "Finally!!! They've been snubbed this whole award season," while another fan wrote, "Finally! This show deserves more awards." A fan commented, "Don’t even know what award this is but I’m so happy. Finally some recognition." A fan tweeted, "as it should," while another happily said, "everyone liked that". Safe to say, fans are extremely happy with the decision and praise the organization for the recognition. Regardless, the guild also celebrates the year’s finest in television, with nominations for top dramas  and 'Better Call Saul' and comedy favorites 'Abbott Elementary' and 'Only Murders in the Building.'

You can watch 'Severance' Season 1 on Apple TV+. Additionally, in April 2022, the series was renewed for a second season, although the release date of Season 2 is still unknown.
