'Modern day Pam Anderson': Fans wish to see Sydney Sweeney in Fox's 'Baywatch' reboot

Following Baywatch's lackluster 2017 box office performance, Fox is working on developing a reboot of the legendary show

LOS ANGELES, CALIFONIA: The dazzling and adventurous world 'Baywatch' lifeguards is set to return to the small screen.

According to a report in Variety, Fox has closed on a script plus penalty deal for a reboot of the 1989 classic Beach series. Further, Fox and Fremantle have roped in Lara Olsen, who served as a producer on 'Spinning Out', to lead the ambitious project as showrunner.

The success of the original 'Baywatch', which ran from 1989 to 2001, paved the way for many spin-offs. However, none managed to replicate the charm of the David Hasselhoff starrer.

Fans rally for Sydney Sweeney to feature in 'Baywatch' reboot

Fans poured in to express their excitement as soon as the news of a 'Baywatch' reboot surfaced.

An abundance of fans expressed their eagerness for the show on X. Some even suggested their preferred actors for the new 'Baywatch'.

Supporting the idea of Sydney Sweeney's casting in the revival, a fan stated, "A Baywatch reboot is being made; all I can say is please cast Sydney Sweeney as the modern day Pam Anderson." Voicing the same opinion, another fan said, "I kinda want baywatch remake with sydney sweeney as CJ parker."

Meanwhile, one fan came up with an eccentric suggestion, expressing: "Petition to have lindsey on Baywatch." "It only works if you have Hasselhoff, the Rock and whoever plays Mitch in the reboot recreate this scene," shared another user on X. A 'Baywatch' follower wondered, "I wonder are they ever going to have a Baywatch Reunion?"

Another fan expressed hope that the original cast would return, stating, "I’m excited for baywatch reboot hope these same people will be it David who played Mitch and the guy who played Matt and forgot few others." "So excited I am huge fan of that show baywatch," claimed another X user.

What will be the plot of the 'Baywatch' reboot? 

There's very little information available regarding the plot and cast of the planned reboot, but it won't be far-fetched to assume that plenty of inspiration will be drawn from the original series.

The official logline of the show reads, "Daring ocean rescues, pristine beaches, and iconic red bathing suits are back, along with a whole new generation of Baywatch lifeguards, who navigate complicated, messy personal lives in this action-packed reboot that demonstrates there’s the family you’re born into and the family you find.”

The makers behind the reboot version should learn plenty from the 2017 film 'Baywatch', which starred Dwayne Johnson. The star-studded venture failed to resonate with the fans of the classic series.

While the original show made its mark with a delicate balance between action and lighthearted sequences, the movie underwhelmingly relied on slapstick humor and crude gags.

The Seth Gordon-directed film included iconic red swimsuits but it lacked sentimental appeal. Showrunner Lara Olsen needs to ensure she doesn't repeat the same mistakes and churn out another disappointing version of 'Baywatch'.
