'Batgirl' fiasco: WB adds fuel to fire by saying Leslie Grace may not be done playing superhero
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After the infamous scrapping of ‘Batgirl’ last week that invited a lot of fury from global fans, Warner Bros in a new Variety article suggests that Warner Brothers Discovery might not be done yet with the actress Leslie Grace.
The report officially confirmed that at present a 'Black Canary' standalone movie, starring Jurnee Smollett reprising the title role from 2020’s 'Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn', is still in development and planning mode for HBO Max. Newly installed Warner Bros. Pictures Group chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, in a new move to have a patch-up and wanting to mend their broken rapport with 'Batgirl' star Leslie Grace, are wanting to have a open possibility of having her continue to play Batgirl in a future DC film or, at least, star in another Warner Bros production.

Whatever film might feature Grace in the Batgirl cape and cowl again will likely be up to whomever Warner Brothers group CEO David Zaslav ultimately gets onboard to lead DC. By directly citing Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios as a model for DC’s future in the earnings call, Zaslav has only managed to add more fuel into the already raging rumor mill over who could get the job. One example for instance could be that Greg Berlanti, who oversees many of DC’s television properties, has been loudly whispered as a possibility for the role — but no one from Warner Bros has actually approached his camp, Berlanti has not pursued the job, and insiders predict that the superstar producer wouldn’t be interested in going in-house.
As soon as this news was dropped, fans became angry and slammed Warner Brothers for even thinking about this. Many of them resonated with the fact that why would she do that and why don’t they greenlight the axed Batgirl film if they are so eager to make up with the star?
“I respect WBD's "optimism" that she'll come back after all that bulls**** last week. Why would she ever wanna do work with y'all again?” a fan said. “Why the hell would she do that?” a fan noted. “Probably in more DC projects that will just get canceled or never made,” said a fan. “Why not Batgirl then? Like what’s the point of all this? The world is topsy turvy enough. I don’t need fucking superhero movies to be the same,” another one shared.
