She was sentenced to life behind bars by the court, without the possibility of parole in 2013. There’s a story behind it though. How her life unfolded post-trial?

In a shocking way, Aria smiled in her mugshot and sang "O Holy Night" while in police custody as she created mayhem throughout the nation with her trial. Despite claiming that she killed Alexander in self-defense, she proved to be anything but a reliable witness. Other witnesses seemed to have a different story. And yet, as much as we know about the erratic Arias—who seemingly went from blonde-haired to wispy-banged-brunette with glasses overnight—there’s still so much to unpack behind her facade and careful lies.

A jury convicted Arias of first-degree murder. She was up for the death penalty, but after two mistrials, a judge sentenced Arias to life in prison without the possibility of parole. "To this day, I can't believe that I was capable of doing something that terrible," Arias said at the time. "I'm truly disgusted and repulsed with myself. I'm horrified because of what I did, and I wish there was some way I could take it back."

A known charmer, when Arias arrived at prison in Arizona after being arrested for murdering Alexander, she soon befriended a couple named Donavan Bering and Tracy Brown. The three inmates became inseparable as Bering and Brown started doing anything and everything Arias asked. Brown even allowed Jodi to tattoo her six times while they shared cells, and one of the tattoos on Brown’s body even has Jodi’s signature on it.

After Bering was released from prison, as Arias' trial date drew closer, Bering agreed to be the latter's mouthpiece, posting regularly on Arias’ social pages whenever the latter asked, and defending her friend to the world. However, when the details of the case and Arias' story were no longer adding up and Bering refused to continue to do her former friend’s bidding, Jodi’s vengeful side emerged, and she started throwing mouthfuls of words at her former cellmate and alleged friend. Bering was found saying later, “She is a cold-blooded killer and would do it again.”

In recent years, Arias has not made headlines because of the 2008 crime she was convicted of, but rather for being in a war of sorts with several of the lawyers involved in her case. This also involved the unofficial ones she befriends from the inside of the prison.

In 2016, a recording of Arias detailing her daily life in prison was released by Radar Online. "It's all good. If this is what it is like to be hated, then keep hating!" Arias says in the recording. "I've had so much love coming in my direction I can't even respond to it now," Arias added that the food wasn't great, but she did recently enjoy a dinner of chicken fajitas. She says, "We had chicken fajitas here tonight. Really good. A big old pile of caramelized onions, some bell peppers, like, all the works. Arias has also been reportedly creating and selling artwork from prison and inmates say that Arias is not very well-liked because she flirts with the guards to get special treatment. In 2019, it was revealed that Arias was involved in a romantic affair from prison and was even considering getting married while behind bars, but that never happened. Arias is now 42 years old. At the time she was convicted of killing Alexander, she was 26 years old and Alexander was 29 at the time of his death. The world has so much to unpack still behind Jodi Arias that Lifetime is releasing a follow-up to 'Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret', one of the most watched and successful true crime movies.

Turn on Lifetime, Saturday, January 21 at 8 pm ET to watch the much awaited ‘Bad Behind Bars: Jodi Arias.’
