'Backstreet Rookie' Episode 4 shows if Dae-hyun (Ji Chang-wook) really trusts Saet-byul (Kim Yoo-jung) or if Yeon-joo (Han Sun-hwa) would manage to bring about a rift between the two. Saet-byul has worked really hard at Dae-hyun's convenience store and has even managed to bring the sales in the store up by manifold. She does not only know how to work well at the counter, but also comes up with creative ideas to increase sales as well. Yet, Dae-hyun finds it hard to trust Saet-byul. In the past, he had mistaken her to be a delinquent student, and that continues plague his thoughts even today.

That is why, in episode 4, when he sees Saet-byul try to pull Yeon-joo out of the washroom after beating up the bullies who had tried to steal from her, he believes the worst of Saet-byul. He believes that Saet-byul was the one who bullied his girlfriend. Yeon-joo, who had been insecure about Dae-hyun finding a great looking part-timer doesn't reveal the truth to him either. Instead, she makes it sound like she was scared of Yeon-joo which adds to the suspicions that Dae-hyun has.

Saet-byul who doesn't have parents and is also a highschool drop out is used to not being trusted by others even while she does something good. So while she is hurt momentarily, Saet-byul doesn't give in to Yeon-joo's dirty way of playing her boyfriend into believing that his part-timer was the one who assaulted her. He had promised Saet-byul that he wouldn't fire her, however, Yeon-joo forces him. When he tries to convince her that Saet-byul might not be as bad as it seems, Yeon-joo gets mad. After a bad day, when Dae-hyun arrives at the convenience store where his friend also tells him about seeing Saet-byul beat up some kids.

This seems to change Dae-hyun's mind about firing her and he even holds interviews to hire another part-timer. However, before he could do that, the thieves who stole from his store end up returning to the store to pay Dae-hyun. He learns from them that Saet-byul was never a bully or a delinquent, but had always beaten up those who did wrong. This has Dae-hyun reconsidering his decision. Furthermore, when Saet-byul's friends also tell him that she was not playing around with them the previous day but was being comforted by them because it was her father's death anniversary, Dae-hyun begins to feel guilty as well.

He realizes that he had miscalculated. So he decides to tell Yeon-joo that he will not be firing Saet-byul. Not unless he clearly investigates what happened that night and Yeon-joo has no other go but to accept his decision. At this point, Dae-hyun learns that Saet-byul has been offered the award for the best employee of the month and as a celebration, he gets her flowers. Saet-byul's favorite ones at that and this has Saet-byul melting.

He also allows a piggyback ride, just once but hilariously enough, Yeon-joo arrives at his store right then. The look on all three of their faces is enough to keep us entertained until the next episode.

'Backstreet Rookie' originally airs on SBS on Fridays an Saturdays at 10 pm KST.
