'Bachelor in Paradise' season 6, episode 9: Derek leaves paradise heartbroken and shattered, but fans have got his back
When 'Bachelor in Paradise' season 6, episode 9 aired on Monday night, we saw the Derek Peth - Tayshia Adams - John Paul Jones love triangle come to a shocking and unexpecting end. We saw one of the fan favorites bid adieu to the gang and leave paradise at the end and fans are now sharing their love for the heartbroken contestant.
During last week's episode, we saw JPJ and Derek get into a heated argument right after Krystal Nielson and Chris Randone’s (Goose) wedding ceremony. That night, they got into a fight in paradise after they returned from the wedding.
Continuing from where they left off, JPJ and Derek were no over the argument. The next day Derek opens to Haley Ferguson about JPJ still being hung up on Tayshia, and about the fight that happened. Haley, who had no idea about JPJ just using her as plan B, confronted him and ended things.

JPJ who was already infuriated with Derek just went overboard with his anger issues. Derek wanted to clear the air between the duo and tries to talk to JPJ again, but JPJ, on the other hand, is still hell-bent claiming that Derek is not the right person for Tayshia and he is.
Tayshia, who is watching the argument, reveals she is fed-up with the two and ready to move on. The next day, she decides to cut it off with both JPJ and Derek. She first takes JPJ aside for a talk. While he unleashes his emotions and feelings for her, Tayshia tells him she doesn't feel the same way. "You guys fighting yesterday just really rubbed me the wrong way,” she tells JPJ and heads over to Derek for a talk.
Tayshia tells Derek, "I just don’t know if I can get there." Who responds telling her that he is there and doesn't know where the change happened. “I don’t know what it is and I don’t think it’s anything you could’ve done differently or better,” Tayshia shared. “I think it’s just not the right timing. I don’t know.”
She also added in that his fight with JPJ had nothing to do with it. Derek is shattered with Tayshia's news and shares that she doesn't know how long more he has to wait before he finds love. Heartbroken, Derek decides to leave paradise. He gathers the rest of the gang and tells them “This is really hard to talk to a group of people who I’ve really grown so close to. I thank all of you guys for the friendships that I’ve built here, but unfortunately this time for me that’s all I’ve been able to build. I’m actually going to head out now. I love so many of you in so many ways. Thank you all.”
Derek's early and voluntary departure wasn't just heartbreaking and shattering for the former contestant. After watching Derek break down and leave paradise without finding the love he came for, fans took to social media to console heartbroken Derek. Revealing that there are after all other fish in the sea if he just goes to a different pond that doesn't have drama and Bachelor Nation in it.
"If you keep fishing in the same pool of water, you are go8ng to end up with the same type of women. There is someone nice out there, who will be you love and your best friend. Get out of this pool of drama," wrote a fan on Twitter.
Adding to that another fan said, "Oh Derek you will find your person and so what they weren’t one of the what 20 woman on the island? Whatever.. so much better out there for you!!"
"Well when people keep breaking your heart there’s so much you can take. He isn’t getting anything on #BachelorInParadise but I bet in real life a lot of women will go for him and want something serious," wrote another fan.
While everyone is hurting for Derek's heartbreak, Tuesday night's preview reveals that Tayshia might be having some second decisions on letting Derek go. Could it be that she realizes she likes him and ends up leaving paradise and going after him? Or will Derek return after Tayshia pursues him again?
We will have to wait for the episode to air to find out. 'Bachelor in Paradise' season 6 airs every Monday and Tuesday night on ABC. Check your local listings for more information.
