If you have been on the prowl for a good movie that is sure to keep you at the edge of your seat, Netflix's 'Awake' might be exactly what you're looking for. Set in a world where no electronic devices seem to work, the human race is now plagued with sleepless nights.

With sleep deprivation causing the world to descend into total chaos and darkness, it is up to Jill, the protagonist, to come up with a solution since her daughter is the only human alive who can fall asleep, effectively putting her life on the line.

Plot

Falling under the genre of science fiction, the movie follows Jill and how her family is gravely affected by a global phenomenon that wipes out all the world's electronics. Suddenly, all of mankind is unable to sleep. Lack of sleep begins to break humans mentally, physically and emotionally, until Jill realises that her daughter is the only human who can still sleep. Seeing that she might be the key to saving the world, it up to Jill to help find a cure and protect her daughter at all costs before the sleep-deprivation induced insanity takes over her mind too.

The official synopsis states: "After a sudden global event wipes out all electronics and takes away humankind’s ability to sleep, chaos quickly begins to consume the world. Only Jill, an ex-soldier with a troubled past, may hold the key to a cure in the form of her own daughter. The question is, can Jill safely deliver her daughter and save the world before she herself loses her mind."

Gina Rodriguez

Actress Gina Rodriguez has acted in multiple projects over the course of her career, her most popular work being the character of Jane Villanueva in the series 'Jane the Virgin', which won her a Golden Globe Award in 2015. Her other works include 'Filly Brown', 'Deepwater Horizon', 'Ferdinand', 'Annihilation', 'Miss Bala', 'Someone Great' and 'Scoob!'

Ariana Greenblatt

Actress Ariana Greenblatt plays the role of Jill's daughter in 'Awake'. She has an impressive body of work, having acted in projects such as 'The Boss Baby: Family Business', 'In the Heights,' 'The One and Only Ivan,' 'Scoob!' 'Stuck in the Middle,' 'Avengers: Infinity War,' 'A Bad Moms Christmas, 'Legendary Dudas' and 'Liv and Maddie: Cali Style'.



 

Frances Fisher

Frances Louise Fisher is a TV and a theatre actress, known for her works such as 'The Edge of Night,' 'Unforgiven,' 'Titanic,' 'True Crime,' 'House of Sand and Fog,' 'Laws of Attraction,' 'The Kingdom,' 'In the Valley of Elah.' 'Jolene,' 'The Lincoln Lawyer,' 'The Host and the Emmy Award–winning HBO series 'Watchmen.'

Mark Raso

Mark Raso is the director of the film. The screenplay was also written by him, along with Joseph Raso. Raso is the co-owner of the production company Fidelio Films. Some of his works incude 'Copenhagen,' 'Under,' and 'Kodachrome', starring Ed Harris, Jason Sudeikis and Elizabeth Olsen.

Trailers

The trailer follows the events that lead to the world's unlikely situation, where no one can sleep. It paints a terrifying image of humanity's descent into sheer madness, as Jill tries desperately to find the answers while keeping her daughter safe. As per the caption shared with the trailer: "After a mysterious global event wipes out all electronics and takes away humankind’s ability to sleep, chaos ensues. But Jill (Rodriguez), an ex-soldier with a troubled past, may hold the key to a cure in the form of her own daughter."
