'Atypical' Season 3: Sam may be in love with Paige, but will their long-distance relationship last through their college years?

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Sam and Paige, but we sure hope if it takes them through the highest highs and lowest lows, and allow them to experience the full spectrum of the romantic experience

On 'Atypical', we have seen the many ways in which Sam Gardner (Keir Gilchrist) tried to survive and experience puberty at the same time.

Over the years, he has been through a lot and even landed the people around him in some funny situations, but finally, he has found the one thing most people want to experience once in high school — love.

At the end of season two, Sam admitted to his on-again-off-again girlfriend Paige (Jenna Boyd ) that he thinks he may be in love with her.

The proof supporting his logic was pretty solid too because it reflected on the many things he did for her to make her happy, and all of those things were outside of what he is comfortable with.

The obvious answer to why he would do this for someone is because he loves her. When he made this declaration — in the most off-handed, Sam way possible — Paige looked extremely shocked.

We know that she too feels similarly about him, and of course, she would want to explore an actual, adult relationship with him, now that they are both high school graduates and seem to feel the same way about each other.

We also know Paige to be a strong and independent woman, and she would certainly think of her own career and future before a relationship with Sam, but we wonder if either she or Sam would reconsider their preferred college with this new development.

We know that college is going to be a huge part of Sam's life in the third season, especially since both Sara Gilbert and Eric McCormack are joining the cast as professors on the show.

While McCormack's Professor Shinerock is an eccentric arts professor, Gilbert's Professor Judd is an irritable ethics professor. It remains to be seen how these characters impact Sam's life and his outlook towards it.

In a photo that was released as the "first look" for the new season by the show's official social media page, we see Sam and Paige looking at each other mid-conversation in a car.

We cannot help but wonder if they are going to pursue a long-distance relationship or if this is a break-up scene.

While there is so much potential for this couple, it may also be great to see Paige saying studies are more important to me, and break it off with Sam, and he experiences heartbreak for the first time — infinitely more than when he was rejected by his therapist Julia (Amy Okuda).

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Sam and Paige, but we sure hope if it takes them through the highest highs and lowest lows, and allow them to experience the full spectrum of the romantic experience.

'Atypical' season three will premiere on Friday, November 1 on Netflix.
