'Atypical' Full Cast List: Meet Keir Gilchrist, Jennifer Jason Leigh and other stars of Netflix show
'Atypical' is a coming-of-age story that centers around nineteen-year-old Sam (Keir Gilchrist), who is on the autism spectrum, and his attempts to find love and independence. In season 3 of 'Atypical' we saw Sam head off to college where new challenges awaited him.
However, it wasn't just a challenging time for Sam, his family too had to come to terms with changes in their own lives as a result. With a stellar cast that includes acting veterans such as Jennifer Jason Leigh, who plays Sam's mother, Michael Rapaport, who plays Sam's father, and Sara Gilbert in a recurring role as Sam's professor as well as Eric McCormack as his art professor, this is a cast which provides viewers with a lot to look forward to. Keir Gilchrist as Sam
Gilchrist plays Sam who is on the autism spectrum. Prior to 'Atypical', the Canadian actor was known for his roles in films such as 'It's Kind Of a Funny Story', where he plays a clinically depressed teenager who gets admitted into an adult psychiatric ward. He is also known for his roles in films like 'It Follows' and 'The Good Neighbour', where he starred alongside James Caan. He made his debut with the film 'The Right Way', which is based on two suburban underachievers. Besides being an actor, Gilchrist is also a musician and is the vocalist of grindcore band 'Whelm' and death metal band 'Phalanx'.
Jennifer Jason Leigh as Elsa
Jason Leigh plays Sam's mother Elsa, who must now continue her own journey of self-discovery as her children become more independent. Jason Leigh is an actor and producer is known for her performances in several critically acclaimed films such as 'Single White Female', 'Road to Perdition' and her role as Daisy Domergue in Quentin Tarantino's 'The Hateful Eight', which garnered her a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination. Besides such critically acclaimed films, Leigh has also starred in several sci-fi films such as 'Annihilation' and 'Possessor'.
Michael Rapaport as Doug
Rapaport plays Doug, Sam's father on 'Atypical'. Rapaport is of course a face that we all remember from shows such as 'Friends', where he played Phoebe's love interest. He has also had memorable guest roles on several popular shows such as 'Boston Public' and 'The Big Bang Theory'. Besides his television career, he has also appeared in over 60 films including 'Deep Blue Sea', 'The 6th Day', 'Dr Dolittle 2' and 'The Heat'.
Brigette Lundy-Paine as Casey
Lundy-Paine stars as Sam's sister Casey. Multi-talented Paine has also co-founded the band 'Vocal Pride' as well as an art publication called 'Waif Magazine'. In November 2019, Paine came out as nonbinary and now goes by they/them pronouns. Prior to 'Atypical', Paine's best-known role was in the film 'Bill &Ted Face the Music'.
Sara Gilbert as Professor Judd
Gilbert plays Sam's ethics professor in the show. She is an actor, director, and producer who is best known for her roles as Leslie Winkle on 'The Big Bang Theory', as well as her role as Darlene Conner on the show 'Roseanne', which garnered her two Primetime Emmy Award nominations. She is also known for creating and hosting the talk show 'The Talk'. Besides this, she has also appeared on shows like 'Will &Grace', 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit', and 'ER' as the sarcastic medical student Jane Figler.
Eric McCormack as Professor Shinerock
McCormack plays Professor Shinerock, an eccentric art professor who teaches Sam. McCormack will perhaps always be best known to most of us for his role as Will Truman on 'Will & Grace', a performance that earned him six Golden Globe nominations and four Emmy nominations, ultimately winning the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2001. Besides 'Will & Grace', McCormack is also known for his role as Dr Max Kershaw, the psychiatrist turned boyfriend of Julia Louis-Dreyfus' title character in 'The New Adventures of Old Christine'. He has also appeared in several other shows such as 'Top Cops', 'Townies' and 'Ally McBeal'. More recently McCormack has been a part of projects such as Netflix's 'Travelers'.
