'Arrow' Finale Preview: Felicity, Mia and many others are coming together to bid Oliver goodbye
It is truly the end of an era. After eight glorious seasons, 'Arrow' is finally coming to an end. The show's series finale will feature the funeral of Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow (Stephen Amell), bringing together important figures from his past, present and future, including the fan-favorite Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) and Mia Queen (Katherine McNamara). The show's executive producer Beth Schwartz spoke to Variety about the historic episode.
"There's a lot of wish fulfillment," Schwartz teased. "One, being a parent — and I'm a new parent — seeing your child in their adult self is really crazy and also amazing when you're proud of who she became as a woman and also honoring her father's legacy. (It was) not obviously under great circumstances because they’re at Oliver’s funeral, but I think it was a very meaningful moment in their lives."
Besides Felicity and Mia, a number of other characters are also going to be making their return including Thea Queen (Willa Holland), Roy Harper (Colton Haynes), and Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson). "It's really important for me and Marc (Guggenheim) to honor all of our characters," Schwartz said.
"We spent a lot of time in the room brainstorming endings for all our characters," she added. "Whether they were series regulars in Season 8 or they were series regulars in Season 1. We really wanted to give everyone a satisfying ending, so that you could envision what their lives would be like after the show was over."
There will also reportedly be a 'Green Lantern' tease in the episode, which is fitting considering it's been teased that John Diggle (David Ramsey) may be an alternate version of John Stewart aka Green Lantern. Ramsey told TVLine on January 24 that the mystery of whether or not he is the future 'Green Lantern' will finally be answered in the finale.
"Without a doubt," he said. "You are absolutely going to get your answers. And well-deserved answers. We've been talking about this for years, and I think everyone by series' end will be very happy."
The CW has blocked out a two-hour slot for the finale on January 28, with an hour-long special airing at 8 pm ET followed by the finale. 'Arrow' Season 8 Episode 10 'Fadeout' airs at 9 pm.
