SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: Fans had been having a peaceful week with BTS members enjoying their time-off as fans anticipated a new season of their popular variety show, 'Run BTS' (aka Dallyeora Bangtan). On August 16, in a surprising turn of events, the BTS rappers RM and J-Hope were spotted at the Billie Eilish 2022 Happier Than Ever Concert in Seoul. The show was attended by many K-pop idols and actors but RM (Kim Namjoon) and J-Hope got backstage access and were able to meet Billie.

In a series of posts on both idols' solo handles as well as the American singer's Instagram story, fans could see the two 94-line members have fun at the concert and meet with Billie Eilish backstage. Aside from meeting Billie, the two BTS members were seen in a group photo with Billie's brother and singer/record producer Finneas O'Connell. The photos saw Finneas stand between J-Hope and RM while Bille stood on the right of RM. While fans were initially excited to see the photos featuring an interesting interaction between two artists, some ARMYs found an old interaction from Finneas that they believe was racially charged.

Record producer called 'racist' for retweeting a post about BTS

A post from 2020 has resurfaced after which fans of BTS are holding Finneas accountable for his actions. After the two BTS members posted photos on their Instagram handles, fans started talking about the boy group hanging out with "racist Finneas". According to fans, back in 2020, Finneas had retweeted a post that read, "If BTS get Coronavirus the stans are going to find a cure within 24 hours." While he did not post the tweet himself, fans called out Finneas for supporting a comment that wished for the members of the boy group to test positive for Covid-19.

Since this tweet was also made during the time there was no cure to the highly deadly virus that put the world at a standstill, fans were extremely displeased by the actions of a famous record producer. Triggered by his action and his lack of apology then, fans are calling Finneas out now as he poses with BTS members as one fan said, "Finneas the same person who liked a racist tweet about bts ohhh he needs to stay away." One more fan said, "ARMYS LISTEN!!! some have mixed feelings about Billie past racist comments HOWEVER her brother, Finneas, engaged in racist jokes about BTS and COVID back in 2020. we do not support that disgusting man. really wish hobi & joon knew before taking this photo."

Another fan said, "Okay…… so i didn’t know finneas rt a racist twt related to BTS that messed up. But at the end of the day BTS met him I’m sure his perspective must have changed after meeting them. There’s nothing more we can do." One fan said, "So good to see hobi and joonie with billie! just gonna censor that racist mf." One more fan said, "Not enough people are as mad at billie as they are at finneas. Theyre both insanely racist." Another fan said, "Billie Eilish’s brother Finneas is racist and xenophobic. Remember that ARMYS."

'The tweet wasn't even racist'

On the other hand, other fans are pointing out that the tweet was meant to be a joke. They also add that Finneas apologized for it. One fan said, "Op drags artistes all the time by the way. It's not the first time. They did it when jk attended svtn's concert. Op here gave a halfbaked story. Nobody said the tweet wasn't racist. But Finneas didn't even tweet it. He retweeted, realised his mistake and apologised." Another fan said, "You're fighting yourself. I literally said the tweet Finneas interacted w/ was not racist, u've been unable to tell me why it is. Finneas did not interact w/ other twts. And no one has said the other dude is not trash/racist."

One fan said, "Even if these tweets are not it they're not racist, plus what does this have to do with finneas, he retweeted a twt about army being a dedicated fandom he had no way of knowing this man is a hater nor made these other twts like?????" One more fan said, "It’s not as bad as people are making it out to be. The OP is a racist, but Finneas retweeted without knowing that it was meant as a racist comment. 1 minute looking through his tl and you know he isn’t as horrible as some are making him out to be."

One fan said, "But is it rlly racist tho..? Bc me personally I'm not asian. So I prolly wouldnt have a say in it but I genuinely found this funny bc the tweet was joking ab how loyal we are to bts...not ab race...like this tweet frfr doesnt cover anything ab race." Another fan said, "The tweet wasn’t even racist?? who are you to say that things?"
