'Archer' Season 11 Episode 6 Preview: Lana and Archer's double date night gets as uncomfortable as it sounds
Episode by episode, Sterling Archer (H Jon Benjamin) has done everything in his power -- both inadvertently and very much on purpose -- to undermine the new status quo that he finds his loved ones enjoyed in his absence. Slowly, but steadily, Archer's return has had his colleagues regress to the way things were, and now that Cyril Figgis (Chris Parnell) is back to being a slightly overweight, cowardly office drone, Archer's real point of contention -- Lana Kane's (Aisha Tyler) new marriage -- is surely in his sights. There's a double date in store, and as expected, it goes off the rails quickly, but nobody could have predicted just how badly.
Archer's biggest frustration and point of disbelief about his new post-coma world is the fact that not only did Lana move on from him but that she found love and marriage with a significantly older man named Robert (Stephen Tobolowsky). Archer won't stop aggressively making fun of Robert's age as he tries to understand why Lana doesn't seem to care about him anymore, and it looks like things might finally come to a head on their double date. Archer's ribbing has been grinding on Lana's nerves, and in the last episode she admitted that things with her husband have not, in fact, been going all that great -- not that she could admit that to Archer.
The episode ahead features not just double-date hijinks, but spy trouble mixed in. Archer's new date may or may not make Lana more jealous (though Archer even attempting to is sure to get Lana more riled up than anything else), but things take a turn for the chaotic when Cyril show's Archer's date a top-secret dossier, which is decidedly against protocol. Archer's not the only one with relationship troubles, however, as Doctor Krieger's (Lucky Yates) holographic AI girlfriend apparently has enough self-awareness to realize that she's just not that into him anymore.
The synopsis for the episode, entitled 'The Double Date', reads "Archer shows off his date to Lana, Cyril shows Archer's date a top-secret dossier, and Archer's date shows Archer his innermost desires." You can watch a trailer for the episode below.
