Out of the ensemble of Apple TV+ shows that dropped last year, ‘Truth Be Told’ was somewhat a mixed bag. While critics panned the show for its mediocre writing, it managed to be a hit with viewers. Perhaps that’s why the show has been renewed for a second season, according to a Variety report on March 5.

“I cannot wait to work with the talented Nichelle, as well as our partners at Apple, Hello Sunshine, Chernin Entertainment Endeavor Content, and the entire ’Truth Be Told’ family to continue expanding these characters and this world,” said Spencer. “There is so much more to explore and we are truly excited to begin creating new episodes, storylines, and characters.”

Release Date:

No release date has been announced for ‘Truth Be Told’ Season 2 as of yet.

Plot:

Season 1 of the show saw true-crime podcaster Poppy Parnell (Octavia Spencer) revisiting an old case she had reported on as a young journalist; a case that had shot her to fame. In her stories then, Poppy had written an incriminating profile of Warren Cave (Aaron Paul), a teenager being tried for the murder of his neighbor. Her profile painted his picture as that of a monster and likely influenced the jury that, then, found him guilty.

Years later, now, Poppy questions her investigation, and on her hit podcast, reexamines the story, as she tries to help Warren, now a neo-Nazi inside the prison. Ultimately, Warren is found innocent of the crime.

While no details for the plot of season 2 has been released, Deadline reported that “It will be a quasi-anthology in the vein of USA drama ‘The Sinner’ and NBC comedy ‘Trial & Error’ where there is a central protagonist(s) that carries over as each season focuses on a new story with new characters,” adding that Spencer will reprise her role as Poppy, as she examines a new case.
