After a truly long wait, the Netflix and CBC series 'Anne with an E' is returning with Season 3 and we could not be more excited. With the children of Seasons 1 and 2 becoming teenagers now, the stories are going to get a lot more intense and dramatic.

Anne (Amybeth McNulty), for one, is turning 16 and has resigned herself to lifelong spinsterhood dedicated to books and adventures, and as the 'Anne of Green Gables', fans already know Anne's life is far from being love-less.

While she still sees Gilbert (Lucas Jade Zumann) as the annoying yet gifted boy in her class, the prelude to their love story will be written in the upcoming Season 3.

As  Helen Johns, who portrays Eilza Barry on the show tells MEA WorldWide during an interview, 16 being a milestone will become a significant aspect of the new season.

"Anne turns 16 this season, which is a milestone, particularly when you consider that within this period, people 'came of age' at a younger time," she says.

She adds that much like Anne, her TV daughter Diana (Dalila Bela) would also be "trying to figure out her place in the world. It's a fairly turbulent time for all of us." Needless to say, we are excited.

The pursuit of "finding herself" will also see Anne looking for her past, and where she came from. We will see her straining to learn more about where she came from and who her biological family is, which would make things at Green Gables a little tense.

As we can imagine, Marilla (Geraldine James) and Matthew (RH Thomson) feel threatened by what they can never have in common with Anne, which is lineage.

However, they do have something stronger, which is love. We are sure that everything will fall into place before the season ends, but the thought of Anne not getting along with Marilla and Matthew is certainly sad.

To find out how that story pans out, watch Season 3 of 'Anne with an E' when it premieres on Netflix on Friday, January 3.
