PUBLISHED AUG 6, 2019

Gerard Butler is back as Agent Mike Banning with 'Angel has Fallen'. Just that this time, along with saving the President of the United States of America, he's got to save himself.  The action film is the third installment in the 'Fallen' film series, following 'Olympus Has Fallen' (2013) and 'London Has Fallen' (2016).

Prior to 'Angel has Fallen', the two movies saw Banning running, jumping and killing terrorists mercilessly, should they even whisper the name of the President. This time around, he's the one who's hunted. Here's what we know about the action-packed installment so far.

Release date:

'Angel Has Fallen' will hit theaters August 23, 2019

Plot:

The official synopsis reads: "When there is an assassination attempt on U.S. President Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman), his trusted confidant, Secret Service Agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler), is wrongfully accused and taken into custody."

"After escaping from capture, he becomes a man on the run and must evade his own agency and outsmart the FBI in order to find the real threat to the President. Desperate to uncover the truth, Banning turns to unlikely allies to help clear his name, keep his family from harm and save the country from imminent danger."

In each of the movies, we've seen Banning as the President's loyal Secret Service agent and security detail. Twice he saves the most powerful man in the country risking his own life without a second thought, and this time, it looks like the man is in some serious trouble. At the moment, we don't know who the unlikely allies are in the movie, but we're pretty sure it ain't the probably surviving terrorists.

Piper Perabo as Leah Banning ('Cheaper by the Dozen'), Jada Pinkett Smith ('Matrix: Revolution'), Lance Reddick ('John Wick'), Mark Arnold ('Santa Barbara'), Nick Nolte ('The Prince of Tides'), Tim Blake Nelson ('The Incredible Hulk') and Danny Huston ('X-Men Origins: Wolverine') round up the rest of the cast.

Director/Writer:

'Angel Has Fallen' is directed by Ric Roman Waugh ('Snitch') from a screenplay by Robert Mark Kamen ('Taken') and Matt Cook & Waugh including.

Trailer:

Here's a look at the latest trailer:

And here's the long trailer that was released earlier in May this year:

The footage starts with Banning fishing with Freeman before a drone attack destroys the peace of the lake. This is followed by an announcement that Banning was involved in an assassination attempt on the POTUS.

The rest of the footage is about Banning making an attempt to escape a new breed of terrorists while also evading capture from the FBI and other security agencies. The trailer promises to live up to its billing with some high-octane action.

The clip also introduces two new characters. Piper Perabo comes in for Radha Mitchell, who played Banning's wife, Leah Banning. We also get a quick glimpse of Nick Nolte as Clay Banning, Mike's father.

News:

In an interview with Comicbook, Butler teased more serious drama. "It’s a chance to be involved with some more serious drama, some more subtle performance, and take a more inward journey amidst all the craziness and the action," he said.

He went on to add: "It was great to examine these characters and make it very moving and profound and touching and relatable. I think this movie is very relatable without having to blow up the White House and Big Ben."
