LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After years of waiting for the opportunity to audition for 'American Idol,' Durham girl Ashley Tankard eventually got to realize her dream. Even though Ashley's patience was rewarded, fans are dissatisfied with the outcome.

'American Idol' returned this week with the second round of auditions for the season, featuring 14 performers eager to impress the judges and earn their golden ticket. Ashley disclosed to ABC11 that she wanted to inspire people to never give up, no matter how long it took for their goals to become a reality. She traveled to Las Vegas with her older sister in 2022 and was eventually able to persuade the producers to let her audition. But how did it turn out?

Ashley Tankard fails to impress Luke Bryan

Ashley informs producers during her Zoom tryout that she's been auditioning for shows since she was 15, and she's had as many rejections as she can count. She will, however, be competing in front of the judges. She simply cannot comprehend it. Furthermore, she admits that she was a shy child. Music assisted her in breaking out of her isolation.

Ashley finds herself totally star-struck in front of the judges. She's agitated and clearly anxious. She has a unique voice and is very passionate. However, she struggles with intonation and cadence. Katy enjoyed the music choice of 'You Broke Me First' by Tate McRae, but she needs to work on her enunciation. Her enunciation became jumbled as she hurried up. It was better when she sang again. Lionel admits to being frightened when he first performed. Luke admires her tone but observes her lack of control at times. The judges' votes are divided. Katy is willing to give her an opportunity. Luke declines. Before we hear from Lionel, we have a CLIFFHANGER COMMERCIAL. He thinks about it for a while and then says yes after Katy goes to fight for her. She's made it to Hollywood.

'There’s a reason why she didn’t make it 15 times'

Viewers at home slammed the judges as they write, "Hey @LionelRichie She is no super star! Dumb move man! Such crap!" Some fans felt Ashley got in because of her sob story, "So all you really need to do is fail 14 times and cry your eyes out to make it through on #AmericanIdol ? If people only knew it was that easy!" Another person added, "So if you’re sweet and cry your eyes out, you can get a trip to Hollywood, too. Who cares about the singing? Good for you girl…you won a trip." One fan also observed, "Good for her for making it on the show to sing for the judges, but there’s a reason why she didn’t make it 15 times."

One fan quipped, "This girl who tried out 15 times… Idol got it right the first 14." Fans unable to comprehend her words wrote, "I still can’t understand what she is saying." While slamming the show, a viewer wrote, "They really like sher sad story. Giving some people second chances. I can't with this damn show anymore." For fans, "It’s a no baby girl… we can’t even understand what you’re saying."
