Who is Chayce Beckham? ‘American Idol’ Season 19 contestant battled alcoholism before 'pulling himself out'
After weeks of grueling auditions, ‘American Idol’ season 19 is all set for its Hollywood Week with the show’s Top 24 contestants. The very talented Chayce Beckham from Apple Valley, California, who has impressed the judges so far, will also be seen performing a cover of ‘Hard Times’ by Tyler Childers for his Genre Challenge performance.
The 24-year-old crooner reflected on his rocky past in the new montage released by the show where he revealed that he has experienced a lot of ups and downs, a lot of hard times, and struggled “pulling himself out of a place he didn’t want to be in.”

Beckham hits the stage with his acoustic guitar and serenades Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan with his raspy country vocals. If we speak about Beckham’s golden ticket winning performance on the song ‘What Brings Life Also Kills’ by Kolton Moore & The Clever Few, he had left the trio thoroughly impressed. Speaking on the same Perry had then said, “You sound like the heart of American, I think you’re a top five.” Bryan was so stunned by Beckham’s first few notes that he began clapping, moved by the power of Beckham’s voice. Bryan later said: “Your first note had me, I mean I started clapping and I didn’t even know my hands were clapping.” Lionel Richie also praised him, saying: “I definitely love what you just did, you killed it.”
Who is Chayce Beckham on ‘American Idol’?
Chayce Beckham is a musician but has been working for a construction firm for three years now. Looking at his earlier montages on the show, it was revealed that at first, he was not sure if he wanted to audition for ‘American Idol’. However, thanks to his parents, he went for it. With a rocky past that includes a lot of drinking, he ultimately decided to make some positive changes. Beckham uses his Instagram page to regularly post about his music projects, including his appearances on 'American Idol'.
He became more focused about his music when the pandemic hit and soon started taking song requests on Instagram during the same time. The ‘American Idol’ contestant also penned a lot of songs in 2020 and he hopes to release them soon. Looking at his Instagram posts, Beckham loves spending time with family and also likes to go fishing. Apart from being a singer, he is also a song-writer and plays the guitar as well. He might appear as a solo artist but earlier he was part of the band called Sinking Sailors for several years. The band has released two EPs so far i.e. one in 2017 and another in 2018 and they are mostly into reggae music. Beckham is also good friends with fellow ‘American Idol’ contestant Benson Boone and they have even come up with a combined nickname: #bayce.
