'American Horror Story: 1984' might be connected to season 2 'Asylum' through Mr. Jingles and the aliens

Mr. Jingles, the masked murderer in 1984, brings back memories from Asylum's Bloody Face. Could he be descendent of the notorious rapist or do aliens have a role in this?
PUBLISHED SEP 4, 2019

Ryan Murphy's upcoming season 9 of 'American Horror Story' is straight out of a slasher nightmare. Borrowing a story similar to that of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) from the 'Scream' franchise, and with a masked murderer on the loose, targeting youngsters visiting a camp just like 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre', the resemblances are uncanny. But there's a high chance that Murphy's ninth installment of the FX anthology horror, might have some pretty strong connections with one of its prior seasons called 'Asylum' aka season 2!

In the new and final full-length trailer for season 9, we see the prime element of horror and nothing is supernatural about him so far. Called Mr. Jingles, we first hear about him when a supervisor type person informs comes to receive a woman of higher authority who has just arrived at the premises of a mental asylum. It's a rainy night with security at the facility trying to catch hold of several patients and carry them back inside after what looks like an escape spree out of some commotion. It is at this moment, the supervisor male informs the woman that one of their patients have broken out, and as the name Mr. Jingles comes up, the camera pans to a masked man in a hooded black cloak, pulling out a massive knife from a bag.

This has led fans to believe that Mr. Jingles could be one of the patients of the same creepy titular mental asylum that the second season was set around. Almost every season of 'American Horror Story' despite its same cast, is interconnected with the other seasons, and turns out 1984 has found its roots all the way back in 'Asylum', just the way the eighth season 'Apocalypse' was connected to the first season 'Murder House' and the third season, 'Coven'.

'Asylum' was about the ongoing war between the Devil and God, with a nun representing the devil, and aliens representing God. As the good inmates at the asylum, Briarcliff, were saved in their battle against Sister Mary Eunice (Lily Rabe) aka the one possessed by the evil, in commotion, a lot of patients do happen to break out of season 2's asylum, with one of them being our very own Mr.  Jingles for all we know.

However, a lot of fans have also speculated that instead of Mr. Jingles being '1984's connection to 'Asylum', given the ninth season's setting, it will be the aliens, and Kit Walker's (Evan Peters' character in 'Asylum') two children,  Julia and Thomas. Born to parents on God's side of the war, the two kids possessed angel-like capabilities and where the aliens' driving force in helping the good inmates. So it's possible that they are Mr. Jingles' new target in '1984' as the year would mean the two kids turning 20-somethings, aka an age very appropriate for indulging in camping out amidst woods with your friends.

Let's also not forget that Mr. Jingles with his mask and all is a clear reminder of 'Asylum's villain Bloody Face, who wore a literal leather mask made out of human skin before killing off his victims, as a result of dark, deep-rooted mommy issues. Asylum's first Bloody Face was Oliver Thredson (Zachary Quinto), who raped Sarah Paulson's Lana Winters; the couple had a child which the traumatized Lana gave up for adoption and wanted nothing to do with. Years later, a second Bloody Face resurfaces, and he turns out to be Lana and Oliver's abandoned son who wants to seek revenge on his mother for abandoning him all those years ago. The same story could follow in '1984', with Mr. Jingles being a descendant of the insidious Bloody Face for fresh horrors to unfold.

'American Horror Story: 1984' premiers on September 18, at 9 pm, only on FX.
