What is the plot of 'American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders?'
The docuseries centers its narrative on the unexplained death of journalist Danny Casolaro. Casolaro was discovered dead in his hotel room on August 10, 1991, after slashing his wrist multiple times.
Investigating the truth behind the journalist's death, researcher Christian Hansen will attempt to resurrect the work he left behind in the series.
Archival videos related to the case and personal accounts from those close to Casolaro will feature in the show.
What is the real story behind 'American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders?'
Despite the determination that Casolaro killed himself, the exact cause behind his death remained unknown. The journalist, at the time of his death, was locking horns with some influential people in America.
Casolaro was investigating the infamous Inslaw case, Ronald Reagan's 1980 presidential win, and the collapse of Bank of Credit and Commerce International.
What happened after the death of Danny Casolaro?
Even though the autopsy results have shown that he did kill himself, many have cast doubt on those assertions.
Firstly, Casolaro's family has shown beyond a reasonable doubt that the journalist was receiving phone harassment and threats. Additionally, the family highlighted that Casolaro was terrified of even blood tests; therefore, his decision to kill himself by slicing his wrist seemed questionable.
In addition, members of an FBI task team investigating Casolaro's killing questioned the autopsy and demanded additional investigation into the matter. According to many FBI records, certain critical files about the investigation were kept from the public.
On the contrary, Casolaro's colleague Ron Rosenbaum suggested that the writer may have killed himself to draw attention to his research. Overall, despite multiple investigations, the conclusion that Casolaro took his own life remains the officially stated cause of his death.
