AMAs 2020: The Weeknd wins Male Artist for Soul/R&B, fans love how he cosplays ‘plastic surgery recovery patient’

The 2020 American Music Awards is currently being held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles in the presence of fewer than 100 audiences. A Dick Clark Productions spokesperson confirmed that the event is being conducted by following the Covid-19 safety guidelines and protocols rigorously.

The starry event had nominated a number of artists for some of the most popular albums of the year. This year's Favorite Male Artist Soul/R&B Artists category had nominated Chris Brown, John Legend, and The Weekend. The award was won by The Weeknd, who had already made the Favorite Song - Soul/R&B for his hit song 'Heartless' and Favorite Album- Soul/R&B for 'After Hours' his. 

Besides praising him for raking awards after awards, fans couldn't stop raving about his outlook for the night, in which he looks like a patient recovering from plastic surgery. One fan tweeted, "the weeknd cosplaying as a plastic surgery recovery patient is the closest we’ve got to a male artist trying to perpetuate a cohesive concept throughout their album era, yet it still pales in comparison to what we expect from the main pop girls #AMAs" another added, "#AMAs cool seeing @theweeknd accept is award in cosplay"  One tweeted, "Still can't get over with The Weeknd's mummy cosplay" Another wrote, "the weeknd rly staying true to his album concept and the locals asking if he got plastic surgery or beaten up."



 



 



 



 

The annual music event will see the 'Empire' star Taraji P/ Henson as the host with over 15 performances. The audience witnessed the world premiere of new singles by Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, and Shawn Mendes. Meanwhile, the nominees announced by Dua Lipa in October revealed that the Weeknd was leading with the most nominations, followed by Megan Thee Stallion. Bad Bunny, DaBaby, Doja Cat, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift have received four nominations each. the 2020 AMAs will be by Anthany Anderson, Cara Delevingne, Derek Hough and Paris Hilton among others. 

It has been said that "Anyone entering the AMAs footprint is tested in advance, and testing continues with frequency throughout the wrap of production." Reportedly, when the artists aren't presenting on the stage, they will be required to wear personal protective equipment.
