Fans were over the moon when the popular manga ‘Alice in Borderland’ got acquired by Netflix to create a live-action J-drama. The show was one of the biggest hits of 2020 and almost a year later in November 2021, Netflix had confirmed that there would be a season 2. There were rumors that filming had immediately begun and well on March 30, Netflix shared that season 2 was complete.

We finally have a confirmed release date as well, as ‘Alice in Borderland’ season will be released in December 2022. The cast all got together to share their experience with everyone agreeing that season 2 would take place on an even larger scale as the parallel world expands. Most of the season 1 cast is returning as the new season follows Arisu, Usagi, Chishiya, Ann, Niragi, Kuina, Aguni, and Mira the game master. While fans will miss Arisu’s friends Chōta and Karube, we are also getting new faces as more characters from the manga will be introduced.

‘Alice in Borderland’ season 2 finishes filming

Alice in Borderland’ takes motifs from the childhood fairytale ‘Alice in Wonderland’ with characters having certain similarities with their fairytale counterparts from personality traits to story arcs. However, playing with the trend of life and death survival game shows as seen in ‘Squid Game’ and 'Sword Art Online', ‘Alice in Borderland' transports all of Tokyo to a parallel world where citizens have to play games to survive and finally escape the hellish world. Those who lose, end up dying, making the high stakes clear to the players.

Excited fans made fancams about their favorite characters like Kuina, Chishiya, and Arisu returning. Another fan was also happy that actor Dori Sakurada was coming back, “Not a niragi apologist but dori sakurada is coming back for alice in borderland season 2 and i cheered.” One fan tweeted, “Alice in borderland 2 is coming, can't wait for this view tsuchiya tao's back supremacy.”
