'Aladdin': Release date, plot, cast, trailer, news and everything else about Disney's live-action film
Disney has been on a roll when it comes to recreating their animated movies into live action films. And as many of you are already probably aware, Disney is remaking 'Aladdin' this year. 'Aladdin' is the 1992 animated film that is based on the Arabic folktale from One Thousand and One Nights and now after 27 years, Disney Pictures is now turning it into a live action film that is set to release soon this year apart from 'Dumbo', 'The Lion King' and 'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil'.
The live-action remake of 'Aladdin' will be releasing this summer. And while we wait for the movie to release, here's everything you need to know about the movie.
Release date
'Aladdin' is set to release on May 24 in the US and May 22 in the UK this year. It is one among the four Disney live-action films to be released in 2019.
Plot
They are creating a whole new world after 27 years. The live-action remake of 'Aladdin' revolves around the classic tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Aladdin goes on a magical adventure after he finds a lamp that releases a wise genie that grants him wishes. Aladdin takes the lamp and in return, he uses it to become a prince and tries to woo the princess. The princess, on the other hand, is met with potential suitors but she refuses to get married for political reasons and instead looks for love.
Cast
Will Smith
Actor Will Smith will be playing the role of the genie which was originally played by Robin Williams in the 1992 film. Though Smith has not received a lot of positive reactions for his role, we still can't wait to see if he will be able to fill Williams' shoes.
Naomi Scott
The British actress and singer who is known for her role as Kimberly Hart, the Pink Ranger, in the 2017 Power Rangers film, will be playing the role of Princess Jasmine herself.
Mena Massoud
Mena Massoud will be playing the role of the lead Aladdin. This is his big break after the Canadian actor starred as Jared Malik in the series Open Heart and as Tarek Kassar in the Amazon series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan.
Apart from Smith, Scott and Massoud the other actors cast in the film are, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as The Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders, Numan Acar as Hakim, and Robby Haynes as Razoul.
Director
'Aladdin' is directed by Guy Ritchie. Ritchie had previously written and directed 'King Arthur: Legend of the Sword' and directed the recent Sherlock Holmes films. But Ritchie is known mostly for his British movies like 'Snatch' and 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels'. Ritchie also wrote the screenplay for 'Aladdin' along with John August. This is the first time that the pair have worked together.
News
Disney recently released the official video of 'A Whole New World' which is one among the standout soundtracks from the film 'Aladdin' that is set to release this May. The new track features Zayn Malik and Zhavia Ward.
Trailer
There were quite a few trailers that were released for 'Aladdin.' The first trailer was released in October 2018. But did not reveal much information about the movie. It just showcases Aladdin walking into the treasure cave and surrounded by the treasure.
The second trailer that was released was during the SuperBowl included the first glimpse of Will Smith as the genie. The trailer opens out with Aladdin heading to the cave, along with his Monkey Abu. The teaser then jumps to the next scene that showcases Princess Jasmine walking down the stairs while there is a parade happening outside the castle. The teaser ends with Aladdin rubbing the lamp which then features a glimpse of Smith as the genie.
The full-fledged trailer that was released recently, features much more than the first two. It starts off with the village trying to catch Aladdin while he runs and escapes. Jumping back to the cave scene we see Jafar convincing Aladdin to get the lamp. And then we get a better look at Smith as the genie as he performs his tricks and fulfills Aladdin's wishes. In the final trailer, we even see Princess Jasmine and Aladdin fly the magic carpet around the castle singing 'A Whole New World.'
