'AGT' Season 17: Fans compare Don McMillan's stand-up to Ted Talk after his 'nerd vs geek' PPT
Don McMillan is a stand-up comedian who does not believe in the'standard' 45-60 minute routine. Rather, he employs graphs, charts, and indices to make his argument. However, neither Simon nor the viewers were impressed with his comedy routine.
For over 20 years, the former chip designer has entertained audiences with his one-of-a-kind PowerPoint-driven comedic routine — and now, he has visited the stage of 'America's Got Talent!' Don was an engineer-turned-comedy writer before deciding to offer punch lines via PowerPoint presentations! In 1998, he began using Microsoft PowerPoint on his show. It gave his act a new depth. However, not everyone was impressed by his comedic style on 'AGT.'

Don McMillan, a 62-year-old comedian from Santa Clarita, California, brought along something special: his television screen. Simon appeared to be uninterested in Don after voting against two consecutive comedians. Don presents himself as a former engineer to the crowd (well, he has done things to brag about). He also refers to himself as a nerd rather than a geek, and to demonstrate the distinction, he displays a Venn diagram on the screen. His presentation included everything from nerds and geeks to microwave popcorn.
Despite the fact that the crowd, which included Heidi, Sofia, and Howie, appeared to be having a good time, Simon was befuddled. Don's locker room encounter, on the other hand, made him chuckle. Howie leaps to his feet at the end of the performance, exclaiming how much he enjoyed it. Terry thought it was "fantastic," while the crowd cheered him on. Howie goes on to remark that Don would be remembered for his "uniqueness"— the guy who delivers his act like a PowerPoint presentation. He believes that delivering it in that manner is "very now," and he found it "amazing." Don thanks him and expresses how much it means to him to hear it from Howie. Heidi thought it was "definitely different" and she loved how Don came in with his TV and charts, which had her in stitches. Sofia felt it was "brilliant," while someone in the audience said it was "good dad jokes." She adored his charts and his energy, and she thought she had the nicest time.
The audience and Terry booed Simon as soon as he said he didn't get it. Sofia pointed out how he was laughing at certain bits. Simon explained himself, saying how he doesn't like PPTs, hence it put him off. He goes on to say that his opinion is subjective and that he does not "have to like every act." In the middle of the mayhem, Heidi casts the first yes vote, followed by Howie, who used his own chart to vote yes. Simon, continued his streak of NO to the comedians, leaving Don's fate in the hands of Sofia. The audience began shouting Sofia's name, encouraging her to say yes. Sofia explains that she didn't need the pressure because she was going to say yes anyway. Don leaves the stage, promising Simon that he will get him next time.
As multiple comedy acts were cut short, a fan commented how they like Don's performance the least: "That was actually the one who didn’t make me laugh #AGT." Another fan compared Don's standup to Ted Talk: "This seems like a Ted Talk more than a comedian. #AGT." Looking at Simon's expression throughout the performance, a fan commented: "Simon is being grumpy #AGT."

Another fan joked why Simon didn't get Don's humor: "Don’t think Simon’s made popcorn before. He didn’t get that one #AGT." A fan predicts how Don may not advance the following rounds: "Statistics comedian was ok. He'll get through this round but won't in the following round #AGT." One fan felt Don looked very similar to Joe Biden as they tweeted with hashtags: "What is funny in #BidensAmerica #Agt."
