'Uncut Gems' on Netflix: Adam Sandler was robbed of Oscar by 'Joker', angry fans say he deserved best actor win

If you love films that swoop you into the underbelly of American crime, here's a classic Adam Sandler movie that will keep you hooked. Directed by Josh and Benny Safdie and co-written along with Ronald Bronstein, the 2019 film stars Sandler as Howard Ratner. A Jewish jeweler and gambler based in New York City's Diamond District who is on the lookout for a rare black opal to pay off his debts.
One of the top 10 films of 2019, it soon grossed over $50M in the States and went on to become A24's highest-grossing film domestically. After a world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on August 30, 2019, it was released in US cinema halls on December 13, 2019, followed by a worldwide distribution on December 25. Now that it's on Netflix, more Sandler fans are hopping on to the streamer to watch the two-hour 25-minute film. And as expected, they can't stop talking about how Sandman should have been considered for the Best Actor award at the Oscars.

"Watching #UncutGems on Netflix and looking at who was nominated for Best Actor last year and it’s f***ing criminal that the Sandman didn’t even get considered. I would take his performance over Joker any day," one fan said and another posted, "Also how did Adam Sandler not get an Oscar nom for #UncutGems?!" Another fan said, "ADAM SANDLER WAS ROBBED. #uncutgems #anoscarforadam."
Outlining the greatness of the plot, one posted, "The fall of the antihero, the shuffling of bets, the all-in to stay above water all for the thrill of the chase and of the bet. Just amazing! #UncutGems." Another one said, "#UncutGems was a wild f***ing ride! The stunning chaotic editing and just the sheer thrill of rooting for a basketball game that I didn’t even understand but hoping that Kevin Garnett was winning for Howard!" Recommending it to all viewers, one posted, "A must watch movie — Uncut Gems on @netflix #UncutGems I would recommend a nice drink to help with the stress while watching it helped my husband and me for sure!" Another wrote, "I'm finally watching #UncutGems and I very much hope it's worth the hype, and not just y'all hyping up white people because Film Twitter has let me down many times before.

Not all fans enjoyed it though. "Just watched #UncutGems for the first time. Good movie. You got to feel bad for the guy, went through all this shit just for it all to end in the last 5 minutes," one said and another posted, "#UncutGems is 75% people yelling at each other." One straight up wrote, "This movie is not enjoyable. #uncutgems." Some unleashed spoilers after that big twist in the end. "It was a crazy plot twist when they decided to cut the gems at the end of the movie #UncutGems," one tweet read and another said, "I thought #UncutGems was going to have the best ending ever and then BAM! Wtf." Another fan wrote, "Wowww #UncutGems was f’n stressful and a work of art by @AdamSandler!! Loved it! But wow just wow. I need a Xanax right now."
Also starring Kevin Garnett, Idina Menzel, Lakeith Stanfield, Julia Fox and Eric Bogosian, the movie is now available for streaming on Netflix.
