Time to make space for a new series among the old ones you already have to watch. With just one month down in the New Year, we have already witnessed an increase in new series that have been released. Now adding to that, NBC recently announced that they will be releasing a new midseason comedy series, titled 'Abby's'.
While there is still around two months left for 'Abby's' to release, here's everything you need to know about the show.
The storyline
Starring Morales as Abby, the series revolves around the unlicensed, makeshift establishment in Abby’s backyard which is the perfect gathering place for locals to find camaraderie and sanctuary. To maintain the perfect bar ecosystem, all patrons must abide by a specific set of rules. The rules include no cell phones (not even to look something up), understanding that earning a seat at the bar takes time to rise through the hierarchy and knowing that losing a challenge may have some unpleasant and unpalatable drink-related repercussions.
The cast
The show's principal cast members are Natalie Morales (Abby), Nelson Franklin (Bill), Neil Flynn (Fred), Jessica Chaffin (Beth) Kimia Behpoornia, (Rosie) and Leonard Outzts (James).
Natalie Morales' role
Playing the role of Abby, Morales ('Parks and Recreation', 'The Grinder', 'Trophy Wife') is a bar owner, who has found her true calling, hosting friends and newcomers alike. A no nonsense person, Abby is ex-military, having served two tours as a Staff Sergeant in the Marines.
The role of Nelson Franklin
Playing the role of Bill, Frankin Bill ('Black-ish', 'Veep', 'New Girl'), recently inherited the house from his deceased aunt. He unexpectedly shows up citing all kinds of reasons on why the whole venture is illegal. Newly divorced, he is a cautious worrier and a definite non-risk-taker who eventually warms to the place and agrees to let the bar remain open provided Abby makes some changes.
The other cast members
Fred, played by Flynn ('The Middle', 'Scrubs'), is a fixture at the bar who is grateful for a place to enjoy a beer and conversation. He also refuses to allow some bureaucratic busybody to disrupt his perfect refuge. Beth, who is played by Chaffin ('Big Mouth', 'Search Party', 'Pitch Perfect 3'), is a harried mom living next door who can escape the madness of her home life while still keeping an eye on things from her perch atop a bar stool. Rosie, played by Behpoornia ('Unicorn Store', 'Pop Rox'), is the bar manager who prides herself on having memorized all 162 rules and regulations. And James, who is played by Ouzts ('Set It Up', 'Master of None'), is the gentle scaredy-cat of a bouncer who crumbles in the face of confrontation.
Series premiere and production
The 10-episode series will premiere on March 28, 9.30 pm on NBC. 'Abby's' is also shot outdoors in front of a live studio audience. This also happens to be the first time a multi-camera comedy has done so. The forthcoming series is produced by Universal Television, Fremulon, Waila Inc. and 3 Arts Entertainment. The series is written by Josh Malmuth with Pamela Fryman directing a plot.
