‘A Teacher’ Episode 10 Finale Spoilers: How long is the time jump and will Claire and Eric get a happy ending?
Hannah Fidell's ‘A Teacher’ — based on her 2013 film — follows 30-something Claire Wilson (Kate Mara), a young teacher at a suburban Texas high school caught in an affair with her 17-year-old student, Eric Walker (Nick Robinson). After the scandal is exposed, their lives are turned upside down. Despite being a victim of grooming, Eric keeps apologizing and thinks it's his fault that Claire is arrested.
Over the last nine episodes, the show depicted turmoil and tragedy in their lives... so what happens in the last episode? The summary of the episode reads, “Claire and Eric have seemingly moved on with their lives, but a chance encounter brings new truths to light.”
To put things into perspective, here's the long synopsis: “Ten years on, Eric works with emotionally vulnerable children and Claire has children of her own. Returning to Austin for his high school reunion, Eric is brought back, after far too long, to his old friends and to Alison.” So that's clear then. The episode takes a 10-year-long time jump and Claire seems to have married again.
What happens in the final episode?
In a 42-second clip, Eric remembers Claire's words, “You cannot tell anyone about us, ever,” and his words to her, “I love you, so much.” As Claire moves on with her life, old memories haunt her: “He's your student... She's a sexual predator.” Her friend Kathryn's words end the montage: “That's a monumental abuse of power.”
Eric gets a text on his phone and the two meet again. Claire has a big fat ring on her finger. What will happen once they meet? Will Claire finally realize she was in the wrong and apologize? Catch the promo here:
Will Eric and Claire have a happy ending?
After watching the clip, many fans couldn't wonder if the two will finally get closure. One fan said on YouTube, “She’s definitely married and it sounds like she has a kid as well, I’m hoping they get closure at their dinner, I hope she apologizes for everything she did to him and I hope they’re able to move on separately.” Another posted, “I hope they get a happy ending. Let us please end 2020 good with them being together forever.” A user added, “I mean yeah it was wrong as f**k when they first started. But now they jumping forward 10 years. They can do whatever the hell they want to now.”
A viewer took a slightly serious tone and said, “She’s his teacher and their sexual encounters started when he was 17, so not only did she groom him but she also statutorily raped him at the start of their relationship. This show is not a love story, it’s a precaution about a very serious issue that happens in America every day. Claire and Eric being together would almost completely counteract the reason why they would make the show in the first place. Not to mention Claire has clearly remarried in this episode and from everything I have heard she has a kid as well. You need some serious help if you’re rooting for this couple.”

‘A Teacher’ premiered on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, from 3 am ET on FX on Hulu with three back-to-back episodes. More episodes in the 10-episodic series followed every week starting from Tuesday, November 17, 2020.
