LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix teased their fans by dropping a poster on their Twitter account for 'The Chosen One', a series based on Mark Millar's comic book trilogy 'American Jesus', initially published in 2004. The streaming giant tweeted the poster on March 28, 2023, which shows the protagonist from the rear staring at a power line that resembles a cross. The caption reads, "The Chosen One — based on the graphic novel American Jesus created by writer Mark Millar and artist Peter Gross — is coming soon."

Back in July 2018, Netflix announced that it would be adapting 'American Jesus' into a live-action after it acquired Millarworld. 'The Chosen One' is directed by Everardo Gout, who is also the producer and co-writer along with his brother, Leopoldo Gout. Mark Millar, the creator of the original comic book, expressed his admiration for the show's stunning visual presentation, comparing it to critically acclaimed movies like 'Roma' or 'City of God'. Millar further praised the six-part series, stating that he enjoyed every moment of it.

Netflix reveals 'The Chosen One' poster

The poster drop came as a surprise as nobody was expecting a series incorporating religion. "He can turn water into wine, make the crippled walk... he can even raise the dead. How will he deal with his destiny and lead the world through a conflict that's been thousands of years in the making?" read the official synopsis.

Fans were quick to react but in a rather bewildered fashion. Some were questioning the plot while others were quite optimistic about the show mainly because of their faith in Miller.

"Idk bout this but it’s Mark Millar so hopefully they can pull it off," said a fan. Meanwhile, comments like "Now, that’s messed up" were seen in numbers voicing their disappointment.

But the most bizarre yet hilarious comments were from fans confusing the poster with 'Pokémon'. Now that's something even Netflix wouldn't have thought of.

'I thought it was Ash Ketchum'

The poster for 'The Chosen One' looks dark and horror-inducing. But some fans took things to a whole new level. Mistaking the poster for a 'Pokemon' movie, a fan tweeted, "I thought it was a poster for a very dark Pokémon movie..." Another replied in agreement, "Same lol." Continuing the thread, a fan tweeted, "Ash wanted to be the very best, but the very VERY best?"

While most took light-hearted jabs at the Netflix show, a few chose not to mince their words. Replying to the thread, a fan said, "That's would've been worth watching. This, not so much."

For those who are unaware, 'Pokémon' is a popular Japanese media franchise revolving around little monsters and their caretakers, called trainers.

Overall, the poster for 'The Chosen One' has caused quite a stir. Some favorable, some not, but it has made people talk. It will be interesting to see how, if at all, the reactions change as Netflix drops more content for the show.

'The Chosen One' drops soon on Netflix.
