Paul Staehle and Karine Martins were staying in Brazil for a long time but the pair finally moved to the US to have a fresh start. After spending years in Brazil, Paul decided that moving to the US would help them shape a better future for their son. However, ever since the couple has moved back, things have not been easy.

Karine felt that Paul's family was not helping them out as much as she had hoped they would. Coming from a traditional family in Brazil, that is ready to step up in need of help, Karine has been feeling alienated in the US. Reminiscing about what she had when she was in Brazil, Karine seemed to think that life in her home country is better than in the US.

However, Paul does not feel the same. In his view, the US has everything that they had been looking for. Unfortunately, one thing that the couple does not have is money. Paul has been struggling to find work and with his criminal background, it seems highly unlikely that he would find a job that would pay well.

Paul's criminal background also posed as a problem when he had to get a visa to stay in Brazil. The criminal record stems from Paul's ex-girlfriend filing a case against him. While the two are not in contact anymore, the record has followed Paul like a shadow. When he moved back to the US, he hoped to give Karine and their son the experience of living an American dream.

However, since Paul has not been able to get hold of a good job, that dream seems to be on pause. Karine had previously mentioned that she would head back to Brazil with their child if Paul is unable to land a good job and take responsibility for their family. Despite assuring her that everything would be fine, Paul seems to struggle to get the ends meet.

Paul's mother also tried to warn him how it was important for him to get back on his feet. While he knows Karine would be disappointed if he fails to get a job, his past tends to catch up to him and poses a problem. Will Karine understand his situation and give him some time or will she head back to Brazil?

'90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?' airs on Sundays at 8 pm ET on TLC.
