2022 MTV Video Music Awards: List of K-pop nominees includes BTS, Blackpink and Seventeen

K-pop has officially seeped into the American market and it seems like after BTS and Blackpink, newer K-pop acts are getting more and more recognition amongst international fans. Just as every other year, the MTV Video Music Awards has announced their upcoming show as well as released their full list of nominees for the 2022 MTV VMAs. The annual American award show will be making a comeback this year where the ceremony will be held on August 28 at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.

The show will be attended by the who's who of the music industry but a lot of attention is being paid to whether or not the K-pop nominees will make an appearance at the event. On July 27, MTV announced the list of nominees for the upcoming VMAs which shows the label HYBE's domination in the award show as BTS and Seventeen have cumulatively bagged them six total nominations. Other than that, groups like Blackpink, ITZY, Stray Kids and more have been nominated at the American Video Music Awards show.

MTV announces K-pop nominees for the 2022 VMAs

MTV has announced a list of nominations for all the categories at the award show with Seventeen and BTS being the most nominated two K-pop acts. Both BTS and Seventeen have three nominations each while other K-pop acts like Stray Kids, ITZY, TWICE, as well as Blackpink's Lisa have one nomination each. Blackpink's Lisa is also the only K-pop soloist to be nominated at the 2022 MTV VMA's for her solo debut single album, 'Lalisa'.

According to the list announced by MTV, BTS has been nominated for 'Best choreography' for their 2020 single - 'Permission to Dance', their Minecraft Performance in the 'Best Metaverse Performance' category as well as the 'Best in K-pop' category with their 2022 single, 'Yet To Come' from their anthology album, 'Proof'. Not only that but BTS has received an additional feature nomination for the 'Best Visual Effects' for the Coldplay single, 'My Universe' ft. BTS.



 

Seventeen and Blackpink also bag multiple VMA nominations

BTS' HYBE Labelmates, Seventeen has been nominated for three categories including the 'Best New Artist' category as well as the 2022 'PUSH Performance of the Year' category with their single, 'Rock With You' from their ninth mini-album, 'Attaca', which was shown in the 'MTV PUSH' campaign in December 2021.

The third nomination for Seventeen is alongside other K-pop acts in the 'Best In K-pop category for their single, 'Hot' from their fourth full-length album, 'Face The Sun'. Blackpink, on the other hand has been nominated as a girl group in one category - Besst Metaverse Performance' alongside BTS for their 'The Virtual for PUBG' whereas Blackpink's Lisa has been nominated in the 'Best in K-pop' category for her single, 'Lalisa'.
