'Your Place or Mine' Ending Explained: Will Debbie and Peter have a happily ever after?
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Your Place or Mine' premieres today, and it's safe to say that everyone will be tuning in as Valentine's Day is just around the corner. It does not take rocket science to figure out that this romantic comedy stars 'No Strings Attached' actor Ashton Kutcher and 'Legally Blonde' actress Reese Witherspoon. Before the release of the movie, on the premiere day of 'Your Place or Mine', everyone witnessed an awkward standoff between Witherspoon and Kutcher, after which the latter explained that it was done to avoid "dating rumors."
In real life, that may be so, but in reel life, Ashton Kutcher's Peter and Reese Witherspoon's Debbie are the perfect best friends who are complete opposites, but opposites attract, as we all know. The film's official synopsis states, "Debbie (Reese Witherspoon) and Peter (Ashton Kutcher) are best friends and total opposites. She craves routine with her son in LA; he thrives on change in NY. When they swap houses and lives for a week, they discover what they think they want might not be what they really need."

As the synopsis clears up a lot about what the movie might be about, we are here to help you understand the ending of 'Your Place or Mine' a little better.
Will Debbie and Peter have a happily ever after?
As we saw at the beginning of the film, Debbie was obsessed with collecting memorabilia, while Peter was the exact opposite. When Debbie was on her way to see Theo (Jesse Williams) because he was proposing to her, she found another envelope in Peter's bedroom, which she opened after much resistance and saw that Peter had kept all the momentos and photos of him and Debbie. This made Debbie realize that Peter and Debbie were always in love with each other and that's why it never worked out with anyone else.
Why is it important to let children make their own decision?
Children are naive and innocent, as we know, but it is also important to let them discover, to help them figure out their likes and dislikes. In this movie, we saw how Debbie always prevented her child, Jack, from doing anything but his homework. However, when Debbie and Peter switched places, a whole new world opened up for Jack, because he could now decide for himself and figure out if he wanted to play sports or not. When Jack finally injured himself playing, he was taken to the hospital, where he decided to tell Debbie that he was free to make his own decisions and that she had to be okay with it.
