'Yellowstone' season 3: With all the villains dead in season 2, here are the antagonists John Dutton could face next season
Spoilers for the season two finale of 'Yellowstone' titled 'Sins of the Father'.
The bad guys from 'Yellowstone' season two are all dead. In a fitting and a contrasting surreal end to the season, the Duttons killed Malcolm Beck (Neal McDonough) and Teal Beck (Terry Serpico) after they dared to kidnap John Dutton's (Kevin Costner) grandson Tate (Brencken Merrill).
It was an end that the audience was looking forward to. From murdering his cattle to staging a brutal attack on Beth (Kelly Reilly), the Beck brothers had sent one gut punch after another the Duttons' way. So when they each met their ends — Teal was shot dead by Kayce on the toilet and Malcolm was killed by John after a very Wild-West conversation — it was a moment of rejoicing, not just for the Duttons but for fans of the show as well.
Earlier in the episode, John's enemy-turned-ally Dan Jenkins (Danny Huston) was shot dead by Becks' men. In a heartbreaking scene, Dan's final words were, "This is America. I have the right to be here."
After turning into allies to tackle the Becks together (along with Gil Birmingham's Rainwater), Dan and John had an intense conversation in 'Enemies by Monday', where John clarified that even though they might be working together at the moment, Dan is still an enemy. "You're the Devil I know," he had said. This had led us to believe that season three will have them on opposite sides of the line.
So who is John Dutton pitted against in the upcoming season three? With an ending like this, Taylor Sheridan has wiped the slate clean for season three.
In a sneak peek shared by Paramount Network, the cast of the series pointed out at the chaotic nature of season two and how season three will have them heal a little bit. As Kelsey Asbille, who plays Monica Dutton, says, "We begin with healing and peace and we're more unified."
Josh Holloway (of 'Lost' fame) is one of the new additions to the cast in season three. According to reports, in a season-long arc, Holloway is set to play the role of Roarke Carter, a handsome, charming, shaggy-haired hedge fund manager with ambitious plans in Montana.
While we don't have more details about his character yet, the sneak peek featured Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce, saying that Holloway's Roarke might hit on Beth and just how much of a bad idea it is.
On the other hand, there is Karen Pittman, who is set to star in the major arc. Reportedly, she will be essaying the role of Willa Hays, a smart, confident, intimidating businesswoman who "walks with the posture of a field general, sports all sharp angles (her hair, her suit, her thousand dollar shoes)".
Willa is the CEO of Metro Capital. Pittman's Willa is an astute businesswoman who seems to always get what she wants and has come to Yellowstone to make John an undeniably good offer, one he cannot refuse.
At the moment, we have two contenders against John for season three — Willa Hayes and Roarke Carter — who do you think it will be?
