Vol. 2 set the tone for one showdown between Hawkins' heroes, Vecna, and even possibly, the greater rumored evil. While a gritty ending was in fact expected, the now-deleted teaser reportedly had some fans calling it messy. The finale is titled. 'The Rightside Up' promises to be an epic encounter and a fitting end to five seasons of amazing storytelling.
According to fans, the teaser was in Spanish, featuring a brief round-up of footage as the crew ventures into the Upside Down and sees some truly horrible sights. Most said the action in the two-hour, eight-minute episode takes place in the Upside Down, and the fate of some of their favorite characters was left hanging.
Earlier, co-creator Matt Duffer said "The Rightside Up" isn't their longest episode of Stranger Things, and further added, "It's very large in scale, but I think it's more character-focused than any of the other episodes in the season. With the 2-hour runtime, you're able to do both."
"What we really wanted to make sure we did this year with the penultimate episode was get the plan in motion so that episode 8 can start at a sprint as opposed to generally with our finales, where they're building the plans and it's climaxing," Ross added. "This way, by just starting at a sprint, one, it's fun, but also it gave us more time on the backend to spend with these characters and wrap this up properly because we didn't wanna feel rushed at the end. We wanted to be able to take the time that we felt that these characters deserved."
The official synopsis reads, "Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna,” the official synopsis reads. “But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time."
The 'Stranger Things' series finale premieres on Netflix on December 31, 2025.
