'World's Toughest Race: Eco-Challenge Fiji' premieres in an hour from now. Hosted by multi-hyphenate Bear Grylls, the show will see him motivating all the teams participating in this race as well as monitoring their positions to ensure their safety. 66 teams from 30 countries around the globe participated in this iconic race that went on for 10 days requiring the adventure athletes to continue hustling 24x7 during the course of it. For this edition of the race, the athletes descended upon the rugged terrains of the tropical islands of Fiji. Steep mountains, sheer cliffs, treacherous rivers, and miles and miles of dense tropical jungles are a few challenges that lay ahead of the adventurers who set out in this race that took place last year in September.

At the beginning of this historic event, it was established that the teams were going to be traveling across 671 kilometers over 11 days and each day was about to present an array of challenges. Each challenge was designed to break the adventurers down physically, mentally, and emotionally. The teams set out to endure some of the most extreme conditions they'd have ever encountered on the way. This was an expedition with a stop-watch with the clock continuously ticking. The participants were required to pass through 31 checkpoints and locate multiple medallions. Every move made by the teams was going to matter and every wrong step was about to be accounted for. The adventurers were required to stay on track and continue the race without the help of modern technology and harness their wits, experiences, and team spirit to complete the race.

What was about to happen during the course of the challenge was not determined, but no matter what, everyone was going to suffer. Before the race began, Grylls gave a pep-talk to all the participating teams and also broke down the rules of the wild. One of them was that they weren't allowed to leave a team member behind and if one member was down, it would mean ouster for the entire team. Respecting the wild and not underestimating the distances as well as being mentally prepared to be hurt and being ready to get over it was something that he suggested as well. Armed with the motivation, all teams set out towards their boats to embark on their journey to complete this Herculean race.

This show is a revival of 'Eco-Challenge: The Expedition Race' that aired between 1995-2002. The show has been home to ABC, MTV, USA Network, Discovery Channel, and ESPN in the past and the Fiji Edition is being released on Amazon Prime Video. This unique sport allowed adventurers of all experience levels on the same course. Teams comprised of some of the most elite racers in adventure racing history racing towards the podium as well as courageous rookies, all with one goal that was to simply complete this grueling expedition.
