'Hierarchy' Season 2 Update: Here's the renewal status for Netflix's teenage K-drama series
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: 'Hierarchy' is streaming on Netflix from Friday, June 7, and those who have seen this youthful and energetic teenage K-Drama, can't wait for a sequel to the series to know where the characters go from here.
The series stars No Jeong-ee, Lee Chae-Min, Ji Hye-Won, Lee Won-jung, and Kim Tae-Jung in lead roles and is created by Choo Hye Mi. The first season sees Kang ha (Lee Chae-Min) enter Jusin High School and challenge the status quo by going up against Kim Ri-an (Kim Jae-Won). An important subplot of the series is Jeong Jae-i's (No Jeong-ee) relationships with both Kang ha and Kim Ri-an.
In the final moments of the series, Jae-i leaves school and her friends to go and be with her mother. She bids emotional goodbyes to Ri-an and Kang-ha. Does that mean that the series ends here? Let's find out if a second season is in the works.
Is 'Hierarchy' Season 2 in the work?
Unfortunately for the fans of 'Hierarchy', there is no update by the makers or Netflix so far about a second season being in the works. The series however does leave ample scope for a possible sequel.
Jae-i is away for now but her relationship with both Ri-an and Kang ha hasn't reached any conclusion yet. Besides, there is unfinished business between Ri-an and Kang ha, as Kang ha refuses to forgive Ri-an for what happened to his brother.
The possibility of the series being renewed for a second season depends on the reception of the first season. If the first season can generate good streaming numbers for the platform, they will surely renew it for a second season.
What could be the plot of 'Hierarchy' Season 2?
'Hierarchy' Season 2 could deepen the conflict between Ri-an and Kang ha as they compete with each other in high school. The second season could further explore the elements of social inequality and how Kang ha is challenging them.
Further, the makers have invested a lot of time in building Jae-i's character so she might return. Both Ri-an and Kang ho clearly have feelings for Jae-i, but it will be interesting to see who she misses more while she is away.
Jae-i's family conflicts also played a big part in the series and as she meets her mother in the final frame of the series, we could potentially explore her relationship with her mother more in the second season.
Finally, Kang ho hasn't forgiven Ri-an but as time goes by, can we expect a change in Kang ho and can Ri-an go deeper into the redemption arc that started for him at the end of the first season? We will find out if and when Season 2 drops.
'Hierarchy' season 1 is streaming on Netflix from June 7, 2024
