SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: 'Goodbye Earth' is streaming on Netflix from Friday, April 26. The dystopian sci-fi K-drama follows the journey of Jin Se-Kyung (Ahn Eun-Jin), a school teacher who protects children from child trafficking, after an asteroid hits the earth's surface in 200 days.

'Goodbye Earth' stars Ahn Eun-jin, Yoo Ah-in, Jeon Sung-woo, and Kim Yoon-hye, and is directed by Jin-min Kim. The series has 12 episodes and is based on a novel of the same name by Kōtarō Isaka.

The series ends on a poetic note with Jin Se-Kyung bidding adieu to everything that life gives us humans and we take for granted. Notably, the finale does not depict the asteroid's collision with Earth. So, will there be a season 2 of the Kdrama? Let us find out.

Unfortunately, there is no official word from the creators or Netflix regarding a potential second season of 'Goodbye Earth.

A second season appears unlikely, as the 200-day timeline for the asteroid's impact has passed and the characters have reached a sense of closure in the story.

While the series concludes with an open-ended finale, leaving the fate of the asteroid's impact uncertain, the door remains open for potential future storytelling. If the reception is positive, the creators or Netflix might consider continuing the story.

It all depends on the streaming numbers this series can generate.

What could be the plot of 'Goodbye Earth' season 2?

'Goodbye Earth' season 2 could provide clarity about the asteroid hitting the Earth's surface. While the end of season 1 hints at the Earth coming to an end, it doesn't explicitly show the asteroid striking the city.

It could be possible that the collision was avoided somehow or, perhaps the impact did not kill everyone. Season 2 should provide the audience with a clearer understanding."

Jin Se-kyung's struggle with child trafficking could continue in the second season as there are bad people all around and if they somehow survive, she would look to save the children from them again.

A potential second season could delve deeper into the character of Kang In-ah, whose storyline was left somewhat unexplored in the first season.

There was a lot left unsaid in the final episode between Jin Se-Kyung and Kang In-ah. This could be explored in a potential second season.

'Goodbye Earth' Season 1 is streaming on Netflix from April 26, 2024
