Aldis Hodge's 'Cross' lands Season 3 renewal with eight-episode order after Season 2's gripping finale
Alex Cross will continue his hunt for America's most vicious killers in another season of the hit Prime Video series, 'Cross,' as the streamer has renewed the show for Season 3. The news comes on the heels of the Season 2 finale, which aired on March 18. Created by Ben Watkins, the crime thriller series is adapted from the 'Alex Cross' novel series by James Patterson. Cross, a forensic psychologist and homicide detective, investigated the murder of the Black Lives Matter activist Emir Goodspeed in Season 1 and solved the murder of a billionaire playboy in Season 2. It is yet to be seen which criminal Cross and his team pursue next. Season 3 will also comprise eight episodes, like the first two installments, but its release date and plot details have not been announced yet.
Peter Friedlander, the head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement that he was excited to explore the gritty world of Patterson's novels further. "From the beginning, 'Cross' has captivated audiences with its layered characters, pulse-pounding suspense, and emotionally grounded storytelling. Aldis has delivered a definitive portrayal of Alex Cross, anchoring the series with depth, intelligence, and heart. We’re thrilled to continue this journey with Ben, our collaborators at Paramount Television Studios, and the rest of the incredible cast to bring even more of James Patterson’s iconic world to our global Prime Video audience," he said.
The series features Aldis Hodge as the titular detective Alex Cross, Isaiah Mustafa as his partner Detective John Sampson, Juanita Jennings as Regina 'Nana Mama' Cross, Alona Tal as Kayla Craig, Samantha Walkes as Elle Monteiro, Caleb Elijah as Damon Cross, Melody Hurd as Janelle 'Jannie' Cross, and others. Season 2 also introduced new characters, including Wes Chatham as Donnie, Matthew Lillard as Lance Durand, and Jeanine Mason as Luz.
As per the logline for Season 3, the series will "continue to expand the high-stakes world of the iconic character, building on the show’s gripping storytelling and powerful performances." The police procedural drama became an instant hit when it debuted in November 2024, with Prime Video reporting that it earned 40 million viewers globally in its first 20 days. 'Cross' was the third most-watched premiere on the streaming service in 2025, and was the No. 1 show in over 100 countries on Prime Video. Furthermore, Patterson also gave the series his seal of approval, telling The Hollywood Reporter on February 11 that he is happy with the onscreen adaptation of his best-selling novels. "What I like about this series is that it’s more realistic about what happens with a cop in Washington these days. I love how Alex and Ben have made the character more complex, more conflicted," he said.
