‘General Hospital’ to kill off another fan-favorite character after recent cast shakeups
Chris McKenna will soon bid farewell to 'General Hospital.' The daytime television veteran first joined the show as the cunning Jack Brennan in February 2025. Before McKenna, the part was played by Charles Mesure, who debuted on December 1, 2023. The suave villain managed to find a place in the fans' hearts. McKenna started with a recurring status but soon became a contracted player mainly due to positive fan reception. But these fans are in for a heartbreak as Jack will apparently die and pave the way for McKenna's exit, according to Soap Opera Network. The actor's final air date is yet to be announced, but as per sources, Jack will be killed sometime in the fall.
Meanwhile, the show will focus on storylines related to the World Security Bureau (WSB), a global spy agency currently wreaking havoc on several characters in Port Charles. Jack currently serves as the agency's director of operations. Throughout his tenure, McKenna as Jack has been part of some memorable arcs. Jack's romance with Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) was intensifying when he entered.
McKenna shared with Soap Opera Digest that his long-standing relationship with Wright helped him deal with the complicated situation at hand. "I know it was jarring to the fans, the timing of the way I came in here, but Laura and I have known each other for decades, and it was a really, really special thing as soon as we started working together," he said. "The first thing we had to shoot was the Valentine's Day episode, and we immediately had to go right into the heavy romance. That could have been a challenge, but it was so much fun, and she made it great." The lovers soon became enemies when Carly began seeking vengeance against her beloved. Her trust was broken when she uncovered that Jack had secretly recruited her daughter, Josslyn (Eden McCoy), to become a WSB agent.
Carly decided to team up with Jack's sworn enemy Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) to bring him down. It led to a dramatic clash between the former lovers when Jack discovers Carly's betrayal. Since then, he has received even more shocks, one being a fatal attack on him by corrupt WSB Director Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes). Things seem to have finally turned around for Jack, as he recently embarked on a new relationship with Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros).
It seems like this new coupling is also doomed, with his impending death. McKenna was always grateful to the fans who warmed up to him. The actor thanked them on X after being promoted to regular status in August 2025. "The overwhelming support from you beautiful people helped make it happen," he wrote. "Appreciate you all so much. I'd love to give a big old (CLASSIFIED) kiss to each one of you!" It is unclear whether the actor was let go or quit. 'General Hospital' continues to air every weekday on ABC.
