HBO has released the first teaser and images for ‘War’, a legal drama led by Dominic West and Sienna Miller. The launch update confirms when the eight-episode first season will begin, while also outlining a second case that is already moving forward. HBO and Sky gave the series a two-season order, and Season 2 is now in production with Marisa Tomei, Kelly Macdonald and David Harewood joining the project. The second installment will move from a celebrity divorce to a defamation case.

‘War’ will premiere Thursday, October 1, from 9-10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will stream on HBO Max. New episodes will arrive weekly on Thursdays. Deadline reports that the series will debut on Sky on October 2. HBO Max will also carry it in Australia, Southeast Asia, Latin America, France and Belgium, while Sky and its streaming services will handle several European markets.

The official Season 1 logline reads: “WAR is a high-stakes, legal drama following the lives of London’s most powerful lawyers as firms Cathcarts & Sons and Taylor & Byrne clash over a headline-grabbing legal battle, drawing ambitious young lawyer Jonathan “Johnny” Warren (Archie Renaux) into a ruthless world where ambition is currency, betrayal is strategy, and winning is everything. Season one follows the explosive divorce of British tech entrepreneur Morgan Henderson (Dominic West) and international film star Carla Duval (Sienna Miller), as Cathcarts & Sons and Taylor & Byrne stop at nothing to secure victory for their clients.”

Phoebe Fox and James McArdle play Serena Byrne and Nicholas Taylor, partners in life and business at Taylor & Byrne. Nina Sosanya and Pip Torrens appear as Beatrice “Queen Bea” Ubosi and St John Smallwood, their rivals at Cathcarts & Sons. The cast also includes Celia Imrie, Nick Mohammed, Emma Laird, Archie Panjabi, Adrian Scarborough, Honor Swinton Byrne and Miles Jupp. The teaser frames the divorce by repeating the line, “You are the wronged party here,” to both sides.

George Kay, whose credits include ‘Lupin’ and ‘Hijack’, created, wrote and executive produced the series. Ben Taylor serves as lead director, with New Pictures and Observatory Pictures producing in association with Sky and HBO. Season 2 will introduce Tomei, Macdonald and Harewood as lawyers caught in what HBO describes as “an explosive defamation case.” The network has not said whether West, Miller or the Season 1 law-firm cast will return. That structure gives ‘War’ a new case after its first-season divorce battle, rather than leaving its future dependent on a later renewal decision.
