'Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' spin-off in the works with one original member set to return to the drama
MomTok refuses to die down. Even though 'Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' Season 5 halted filming following a domestic violence investigation involving Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex-partner, Dakota Mortensen, a spin-off is moving forward, according to PEOPLE. At present, only one person from the main cast is involved in the project. Jen Affleck is supposedly set to star in this spin-off set on the West Coast, along with nine new castmates. The show will reportedly be set in Orange County and will follow the lives of these 'wives.'
The show will start shooting in the spring of 2026 and premiere later this fall. As per Taste of Reality, Jen Affleck's husband, Zac Affleck, teased the possibility of the new spin-off in an Instagram post. The post featured several photos showing him and his family enjoying at a beach in California. He captioned the post, “Excited for new beginnings.” The post could mean that the couple has set down roots in Southern California. Jen previously confirmed that she and the family will move to Los Angeles. After the runaway hit that 'SLOMW' turned out to be, producer Jeff Jenkins confirmed that they were looking into spin-offs, according to Deadline. This is the first one that is seemingly coming to fruition.
TMZ reported that the show is currently expected to be based in Orange County. As per the publication's insider, though, there’s “a strong buzz it could be in Los Angeles instead.” Production sources claimed to the outlet that a pilot episode has already been filmed. Now they are just waiting for a full series pickup. If the show gets greenlit, cameras may start rolling in a few weeks. The production team is so confident in the show that they were hoping to start filming in March 2026. The cast has not been revealed yet, but as per TMZ's sources, it contains some familiar faces that will take on larger roles in the show.
As per Cosmopolitan, at one point, another main star from the flagship series was set to star in the spin-off series. Whitney Leavitt was supposedly involved for a while, but has since backed out. The call may have been because of her Broadway debut after her recent appearance on 'Dancing With The Stars.' In January 2026, a casting call was also put out by 3BMG, the minds behind 'SLOMW,' and Walt Disney Television Alternative, asking “bold, unapologetic, fun women” to apply for a new show, according to Jeff Jenkins' page. This casting may be connected to the new spin-off as it specifically asked for women connected to “the LDS Church or other religious communities.”
