As the Hallyu spreads like wildfire, a lot more interest is being drawn towards the various Korean content that is been provided globally from different OTT networks. Recently, Disney+ joined in the trend by being involved in the production of the ongoing, ‘Snowdrop’ starring Blackpink’s Jisoo and Actor Jung Hae-in. Netflix did it first with their ‘it boy’ actor, Song Kang who has been the face of Netflix Korea for a while with K-dramas like ‘Love Alarm’, ‘Navillera’, ‘Nevertheless’ and the unique horror-thriller show, ‘Sweet Home’ that sent chills down viewers’ spines.

Recently it was announced that Studio Dragon has secured a new project with Netflix where the production house plans to release K-dramas like ‘Boy Judgment’ and ‘Sweet Home Season 2’ as Netflix originals. While not much is officially announced, this new update from Studio Dragon has increased the chatter around the renewal of ‘Sweet Home’ for a new season and the storyline the show will follow after its open-ended finale for the first season with Song Kang as the main lead.

Will Song Kang return to ‘Sweet Home’ Season 2?

While the debate on the show’s renewal for a second season has finally been resolved, fans are excited about the upcoming season of ‘Sweet Home’ considering the global response to the renewal of shows like ‘Squid Game’ starring Lee Jung-jae and ‘DP’ starring Jung Hae-in. As Studio Dragon teased the production of the second season of ‘Sweet Home’, fans are curious about the main lead of the show. With the end of the show, fans have been anticipating a second season starring Song Kang as the main lead of the show but it seems like he will not totally be like so.

Song Kang's agency, Namoo Actors revealed their official position about his role in drama stating that the team is deliberating the actor’s appearance on the show. They said, “It is true that we are discussing the appearance of ‘Sweet Home’ season 2, but nothing has been confirmed yet.” It was initially reported that Song Kang who was the main lead on the first season of ‘Sweet Home’ will make an ‘appearance’ on the show, hinting that the main lead of the show will be a different character altogether.

What is the possible story of ‘Sweet Home Season 2’?

While there is a flurry of fan theories floating on the internet, a few theories suggest that since the character of Cha Hyeon-soo (played by Song Kang) is left among the survivors in the final episode of the drama, Lee Eun-hyun (played by Lee Do-hyun) would actually be the main lead of the upcoming season. As the show hinted that Lee Eun-hyuk had died with the crash of the building, a scene from the end of the show suggests that he had turned into a monster, which meant he was immortal too.

‘Sweet Home’, which was released in December of 2020 and the ten-episode Netflix original tells the bizarre and shocking story of high school student Hyeon-s00, a hermit and loner, who lost his family and moved to an apartment. Song Kang, Lee Jin-wook, Lee Si-young, Lee Do-hyun, Park Gyu-young, and Go Min-si, etc. appeared in the main cast of the well-received drama. Now, much buzz lies around the second season of the show.
