Last month, it was reported that the sixth season of Comedy Central's 'Drunk History' will be it's last. Even though the show was renewed for a seventh season and was in pre-production, it had to be stalled due to the global pandemic.

According to Variety, Comedy Central has decided to move away from live-action scripted shows and focus on adult animation. The show has earned 17 Emmy nominations and has won one. In fact, it has been nominated for three Emmys this year, which includes the best variety sketch series. It was created by Derek Waters and Jeremy Konner. The show had begun as a web series on Waters' YouTube page before moving over to Funny or Die.

The show was a fan favorite because of its progressive approach. In 2016, they were praised for their episode titled 'Bar Fights'. It featured comedian Crissle West to narrate a monologue about the Stonewall Riots and transgender activist Marsha P Johnson. For Johnson's part, they had cast transgender actress Alexandra Grey. The Vox stated that transgender characters — whether they’re fictional or based on real-life figures — have rarely been played by transgender actors and many cast cisgender men as transgender women without any efforts of looking for other trans talent. The report stated that it was a positive step towards the LGBTQ+ community and also an example for others to follow.

In a recent interview with Variety, Waters revealed that he still hasn’t got “an actual answer why it happened … no one’s called me. I have no idea. I have no verification of it.” The report also reveals that ‘Drunk History’ had already shot a portion of all 16 episodes which were supposed to be on Season 7, specifically the ‘drunk’ part, where intoxicated narrators share their views on a historic figure or moment. The other half, where other guest stars re-enact those stories, had not been filmed.

The report further states that the episodes which are now shelved included: Stories about Bruce Lee; the celebrated African American World War I regiment Harlem Hellfighters; 1930s actress Thelma Todd; and Black leaders including Lewis Hayden and James Armistead Lafayette.

Waters, on the other hand, is still figuring out what to do with the content that’s already been shot. The report states going back to the show’s origins on YouTube might be a possibility. “I don’t think anything’s ever over. I have hope. … We’ll see. There’s a lot of legal stuff that you’ve got to figure out. What I really hope for is just to finish what we started,” Waters told Variety.

After this news, fans took to Twitter and demanded their favorite streaming networks to 'bring back' the show. One fan said, “It would be cool if @Netflix, @quibi, @hbomax, @Showtime, @amazon_movies, @AppleTV, @STARZ, @peacockTV, OR LITERALLY ANY OTHER SPOT would bring back @drunkhistory.”

Another said, “#DrunkHistory needs to bar crawl to another network.”

One user wrote, “.@netflix can you please pick up #drunkhistory? I NEED to see the Thelma Todd episode.”

Another stated, “Do yourself a favor @netflix & pick up #DrunkHistory already. We have to stop being offended by our own damn history!”

One fan commented, “Oh no!! This is so sad, I adore #DrunkHistory!! DH was my first exposure to a lot of impactful Black History which was tragically under-taught in my educational experience. I appreciate how they featured diverse historians and portrayed history in a fun, entertaining way.”

Another fan suggested, “Why can’t they take #DrunkHistory and make it a web-exclusive thing on the @ComedyCentral app or something? Can’t @funnyordie snatch it? Seems like it’d be more tailored for @Hulu, actually. Or even @SonyCrackle. (Just not Quibi. No one’s watching that s**t.)”

An angry fan said, "What is wrong with you @ComedyCentral? Let @derekwaterss finish these episodes! #drunkhistory."
