Why 'Vikings: Valhalla' must return for Season 4
Contains spoilers for 'Vikings: Valhalla' Season 3
DUBLIN, IRELAND: The magnificent voyage of adventure and intrigue of 'Vikings: Valhalla', has finally reached its destination, with the release of the third and final season on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Created by Jeb Stuart, the last episode of the show did an excellent job of resolving a variety of subplots, including the characters' reunion, but the show's open ending has left viewers wanting more.
As there is no official confirmation or hearsay surrounding the show's renewal, let's take a look at some unanswered questions that demand a Season 4.
What will happen to Queen Emma?
King Canute (Bradley Freegard) sought a smooth transition, assuring Queen Emma's (Laura Berlin) power following his death.
Despite his proclamation, Earl Godwin (David Oakes) advised Emma to summon Prince Edward (Cal O'Driscoll) to avert civil strife, but Emma had already done so.
However, it is Prince Harold Harefoot, not Edward who returns, disclosing Godwin's scheme to replace Emma.
As Godwin prepares for Harefoot's coronation, Emma makes a deliberate decision to speak secretly with her stepson Harefoot, indicating a potential Royal Union and irritating Godwin.
Now, if season 4 does materialize, it will be fascinating to see the relationship dynamics between Emma and her stepson and how Godwin attempts to outnumber the intelligent queen.
It's also apparent that Emma has to play her cards safely because if she fails to protect her position or her connections collapse, she may face a demise organized by her adversaries.
Given Godwin's aspirations and Harefoot's dubious devotion, Emma must walk cautiously to prevent being deposed or worse.
What adventures will Leif Erikson and Freydís Eiríksdóttir have in the future?
The sibling duo who arrived in Kattegat to avenge Freydís Eiríksdóttir (Frida Gustavsson) has undergone a significant transformation.
Leif Erikson (Sam Corlett) has lost two lovers while fighting wars, while Freydís has had to fight for her and her people's lives.
The season concludes with both Leif and Freydis setting off on boats to find the 'Golden Land' they seek.
Now, we already know that Leif is believed to be the first European to set foot on continental America.
It would be thrilling to watch the siblings go on an exciting journey that strengthened their historical value.
Will Harald Sigurdsson ever meet his son?
Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter) experiences a dramatic shift throughout the three seasons.
In the last episode, he inquires about his son, Harald II, for the very first time.
Freydis described their son as bold, powerful, and kind, similar to his father.
In a heartfelt conversation, Harald confesses he has changed, but Freydis feels the guy she loves is still there and hopes to reconnect with their son soon.
Finally, Harald ascends to the throne of Norway.
He imprisons Magnus Olafsson (Set Sjöstrand), asserts his control, and declares himself king, intending to make his country the most powerful on Earth.
In a watershed moment, he takes on the moniker 'Harald Hardrada' as his people chant his name.
Season 4 might give additional information on the interactions between Harald and his son, as well as how Harald cements his place in history through his powerful rule.
