Why ‘The Acolyte’ steered clear of usual cameos that became a staple in ‘Star Wars’ universe
Contains spoilers for 'The Acolyte'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Acolyte' Episode 8 aired on July 16, 2024, on Disney+, bringing an end to the controversial 'Star Wars' epic adventure series that had an intriguing mystery at the center of its plot.
Created by Leslye Headland, 'The Acolyte' told the story of twins Mae and Osha (Amandla Stenberg) who were created on a planet called Brendok and were separated when Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) along with other Jedis entered the planet to study a unique Force Vergence on the planet.
The antagonist of the show is a man called The Stranger (Manny Jacinto) who is introduced to the audience as Qimir and calls himself a Sith. Unlike 'Ahsoka' and other shows in the 'Star Wars' universe, the show was focused on its central characters and didn't feature any major cameos.
Here's why we think the show did not have camoes.
'The Acolyte' is based 100 years before the events of 'The Phantom Menace'
Events of 'The Acolyte' are based 100 years before 'Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace' when the Jedi Order was at its peak in the High Republic Era.
The timeline of the show made sure that the characters who were featured in the later series would probably not be born at the time of the show's events. So it would not make sense for those characters to appear in 'The Acolyte'.
The show chronicled the rise of the Dark Side and it was primarily focused on Mae and Osha's origin. While there were no major cameos in the show, there were a few characters from the High Republic Era that did appear in the show without making a significant contribution.
'Star Wars' characters that appeared in 'The Acolyte'
The first cameo appearance came in the form of Ki-Adi Mundi (Derek Arnold) whose presence in the show created a stir online as it created inconsistencies in the 'Star Wars' canon. The character was there in 'The Phantom Menace' and it would be impossible for him to be a grown Jedi at the time of 'The Acolyte'.
In the final episode, two iconic characters from 'Star Wars' were seen and while their identities were not confirmed, Darth Plagueis and Master Yoda made appearances. Darth Plagueis appeared on the unknown island where Osha and Qimir were and Master Yoda appeared in the final scene with Master Vernestra (Rebecca Henderson) talking to Yoda.
