LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Acolyte' premiered on June 4, 2024, on Disney+. The epic science-fiction mystery thriller has captivated audiences worldwide, especially garnering attention from avid 'Star Wars' fans.

Set in the High Republic Era, approximately 100 years before 'The Phantom Menace', 'The Acolyte' delves into the origins of the dark side within the 'Star Wars' universe.

'The Acolyte' follows Mae (Amandla Stenberg) as she seeks to kill the Jedi Masters who were responsible for the destruction of her planet, Brendok.

Among these Masters, her biggest roadblock is Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae), who joins forces with Mae's twin sister to thwart her plans.

Along the way, we discover that Mae's accomplice and master figure, Qimir (Manny Jacinto), eventually reveals himself to be a Sith. He seeks to wield the Force without the constraints imposed by the Jedi Order.

As Season 1 comes to an end, speculations about Season 2 are swirling. Showrunner Leslye Headland has teased some exciting news regarding the potential for a second season.

While there has been no official announcement from Disney+ or the show's producers, Leslye Headland, the series' showrunner, has hinted that discussions about a potential second season are underway.

While speaking to Nerdist, she said, "You do a show like this, you take a lot of risks, you don’t really save a lot of those types of questions for season two. There are a lot of things you do save for a season two,"  when asked about the origin of Mae and Osha, "but that kind of question is not one of them" hinting at the possibility of more revelations in the season finale.

She further added that discussions about season 2 were already underway. "I have no idea. Well, not that I have no idea. I would say there are conversations. And I don’t know when that will happen. I don’t know when that decision will be made," she added.

Despite receiving overwhelmingly negative reviews for its treatment of the 'Star Wars' canon and its plot holes, there's no denying the show's immense popularity. Viewers continue to tune in eagerly to watch the series every week.

Given the series' popularity, it wouldn't be surprising if the channel decided to renew the show despite the negative reviews.
