The British royal family is one of the most close-knit families in the world. Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip have always had the family's back no matter what. However the same can't be said about the Duke of Edinburgh's relationship with his son Prince Andrew's former wife Sarah "Fergie" Ferguson.

The 99-year-old Duke was known for holding a very strong grudge against his son's former wife, to the point that he was reportedly ready to skip his beloved granddaughter- Princess Eugenie's wedding to avoid crossing paths with Fergie. In case you're wondering why Prince Philip and Fergie were feuding, then we got you covered.

Why did Prince Philip dislike Sarah Ferguson?

When Sarah married Prince Andrew and became a member of the royal family member, Prince Philip was reportedly very fond of his new daughter-in-law. Philip allegedly told the new Duchess of York that everything she does will be public knowledge, as claimed by the royal biographer Allan Starkie.  Philip reportedly told Sarah "Now you’re a member of the firm you can do anything you want but you’ll always be found out.”

Sarah learned the meaning behind Philip's advice in 1992 when she found herself as a fixture on tabloids across the globe after being photographed sunbathing topless in St. Tropez while financial adviser John Bryan was sucking on her toes. Those photographs were splashed across the front page of all tabloids across the globe. The Duchess was reportedly staying at the Balmoral estate with the Queen and the Prince when the photos made headlines. It became a huge source of embarrassment for the royal family, and Prince Philip reportedly never got over it.

Tainting the royal family's reputation

He was furious with Sarah for tainting the royal family's reputation with her affairs and scandals. Four years later, Sarah and Andrew divorced but maintained a great relationship with each other in order to co-parent their daughters. The Duke of Edinburgh continued to hate on his former daughter-in-law and he made it evident by ensuring that she wasn't invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding, nor the wedding reception of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Sarah and Prince Philip finally crossed paths at Princess Eugenie's wedding after avoiding each other for decades. Despite being at the same event, the two royal family members reportedly didn't socialize with each other.

Where is Sarah Ferguson now?

Sarah Ferguson currently hosts a YouTube series called 'Story Time with Fergie & Friends' where she entertains children during the COVID-19 pandemic by reading aloud stories from children's books. In February 2021, she became a grandmother after her daughter Princess Eugenie had a baby with her husband Jack Brooksbank.

It will be interesting to see whether Sarah will attend her former father-in-law's funeral or not. Considering their bitter history, it wouldn't come as a surprise if she chooses to not attend it.
