‘The Pitt’ confirms Supriya Ganesh's exit ahead of Season 3, but a fan-favorite doctor will replace her
As 'The Pitt' nears its Season 2 finale, the hit medical drama series is ready to say goodbye to a fan-favorite character. The hospital's senior resident, Dr. Samira Mohan (Supriya Ganesh), has been confirmed to exit the series at the end of the season, as per Variety's exclusive report. She will be replaced by the night shift senior resident, Dr. Parker Ellis (Ayesha Harris), when Season 3 rolls out. Harris joined the award-winning series as a recurring character and has been promoted to series regular for the next season.
An insider from the show told the outlet that Ganesh’s exit is a "story-driven decision" as her character has been seen considering other career options after completing her residency at the teaching hospital, Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Labeled as "Slow Mo" by her colleagues due to her meticulous and compassionate approach to patients, Dr. Mohan has often questioned her abilities in handling the high-speed ER environment. In Episode 10 of Season 2, she suffered a panic attack during a critical time in the emergency department. In Episode 12, Dr. Robby ( Noah Wyle) suggested that she consider a career in Geriatrics after seeing her go out of her way to provide care to an elderly couple.
The 28-year-old actress is the second lead actor to leave the show after Tracy Ifeachor, who played Dr. Heather Collins, departed the series at the end of Season 1. The show's executive producer, John Wells, told The Hollywood Reporter in August 2025 that the series’s nature is such that some characters will leave the hospital as they advance in their medical careers. "Look, the show is set at a teaching hospital. And if you’re a fourth-year resident in a teaching hospital, your time there is done at the end of that year. Not to scare any of the other cast members, but people don’t stay at these hospitals forever. They’re going to roll off, and that will be part of the evolution of the show. We’re not committed to doing a year every season as we go on, but we can’t say that we’re going to be true to the medicine and teaching hospitals and maintain the same cast for the entire time."
Harris was seen in four episodes in Season 1 and has starred in the same number of episodes so far in Season 2 of 'The Pitt.' Her character, Dr. Ellis, proved herself to be a reliable assistant in the ED's high-pressure situations. She was seen helping out the day shift doctors with the PittFest mass casualty event in Season 1 and mentoring her peers when needed, including offering emotional support to Dr. Mel King (Taylor Dearden) ahead of her deposition. Fans can not wait to see how Ellis fits into the larger narrative of Season 3. Harris' television credits include 'Glamorous' and the Prime Video series 'Daisy Jones and the Six.' She has also guest-starred on hit shows like 'Abbott Elementary,' 'This Is Us,' and ABC's long-running medical drama 'Grey's Anatomy.' Watch the remaining episodes of 'The Pitt' on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max.
