Another doctor could be leaving ‘The Pitt’ after Heather Collins — here’s the big clue Season 2 just dropped

A single line in ‘The Pitt’ Season 2’s premiere quietly hints at another major exit, proving no doctor at PTMC is ever truly guaranteed to stay.

The Pitt’ wasted no time signaling that change remains a core part of its DNA. Just one episode into season 2, HBO's medical drama has quietly planted the seeds for yet another major character exit. Season 2 arrives with a noticeably reshaped ensemble. Several familiar doctors and nurses have returned to Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, but the absence of Dr. Heather Collins (Tracy Ifeachor) is immediately felt. At the same time, a wave of new faces, ranging from fresh interns to seasoned physicians, has stepped into the chaotic halls of PTMC. Now, episode 1 has all but confirmed that Dr. Samira Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) may be the next to walk away, as per ScreenRant.

During an early exchange with Dr. McKay (Fiona Dourif), Mohan reveals that she has already accepted a partnership at a hospital in New Jersey. Her motivation is personal: she wants to be closer to her mother and support her as she grows older. Professionally, the move makes sense as well. Mohan is currently a fourth-year resident, and transitioning to a new institution after completing residency is a standard step in many medical careers. While Mohan remains part of the story throughout Season 2, the show’s timeline suggests her departure may simply be a matter of when, not if.

There is already a notable time jump between seasons 1 and 2, and the story hints that an even larger gap could occur before season 3, especially with Dr. Robby’s (Noah Wyle) upcoming sabbatical. If that happens, Mohan’s New Jersey move could already be complete by the time viewers return to PTMC. Of course, ‘The Pitt’ thrives on unpredictability, and nothing is entirely set in stone. Circumstances could change. Mohan might reconsider her decision, receive a compelling offer to stay in Pittsburgh, or find that her family situation no longer requires such a big relocation.

She even mentions that her mother is currently on a cruise with a new partner. It opens the door to unexpected developments that could ease Mohan’s sense of responsibility. Still, all signs point toward her exit and that, in itself, reinforces what ‘The Pitt’ is clearly trying to do. The series has made realism a guiding principle, and high turnover is simply part of life in major teaching hospitals. Doctors move for fellowships, partnerships, and personal reasons, and long-term stability is often the exception rather than the rule.

If Mohan does leave, she would become the latest example of the show’s revolving-door approach to its cast. As a teaching hospital, PTMC will continually welcome new interns, residents, and nursing students to replace those who move on. Even characters who remain in Pittsburgh aren’t guaranteed consistent screen time. With ‘The Pitt’s’ real-time format, each season tracking a single hospital shift, doctors could vanish from an entire season simply because they aren’t scheduled to work that day. In this world, permanence doesn’t exist. Meanwhile, as per Cosmopolitan, Episode 2 is set to premiere on January 15.
