‘Dutton Ranch’ fires key member weeks before premiere after clash with ‘Yellowstone’ veterans
The ever-growing 'Yellowstone' franchise shows no signs of slowing down as the upcoming spinoff series 'Dutton Ranch' is all set to make its debut on May 15, exclusively on Paramount+. The spinoff will open with a two-episode premiere, followed by new episodes dropping every week for nine weeks. 'Dutton Ranch' stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser in the leading roles, and chronicles their relocation away from their Montana home to their new ranch in Texas. Although the on-screen drama looks promising, the spinoff has been the site of a bit of off-screen drama lately.
However, Matt Beloni reported, as a part of his 'What I’m Hearing' newsletter at Puck, that 'Dutton Ranch' showrunner Chad Feehan has been fired from the spinoff show. The report further adds that Feehan wasn't relieved of his duties owing to any creative differences or otherwise. The real reason behind Feehan's departure is the fact that he clashed with Reilly, Hauser, and the other veteran actors during the production of the spinoff. It goes without saying that the showrunner is the one who is in control of the series, and yet they can't entirely ignore the input from actors like Hauser and Reilly, who have been associated with the 'Yellowstone' franchise ever since its inception. The details of the falling out are yet to be disclosed.
As a direct consequence of the clash between the actors and the showrunner, the franchise producer David Glasser and Sheridan himself had to step in, and they ultimately decided to fire Feehan. It is being speculated that Feehan will be replaced by another writer, one who is already a part of the production of 'Dutton Ranch'. As of this writing, the exact name of Feehan's replacement is yet to be announced. Feehan has reportedly completed his work on the debut season of the spinoff series and won't be contributing anything beyond that. Feehan is no stranger to working on a Sheridan production, since he was previously the showrunner and executive producer of 'Lawmen: Bass Reeves'. The show ran for a single season, with two-time Emmy nominee David Oyelowo in the leading role of the first Black U.S. Marshal.
'Dutton Ranch' will chronicle a new chapter both in the lives of Beth and Rip as well as in the overall 'Yellowstone' universe. One of the chief reasons behind the relocation of the two characters is that they want to leave their past behind in Montana. Another factor influencing their lives is to provide their young protege, Carter, played by Finn Little, to become the man he's destined to be. The spinoff also stars Ed Harris and Annette Bening as the powerful heads of a rival Texas ranch. 'Dutton Ranch' arrives on Paramount+ on May 15.
