Apple TV cancels ‘Palm Royale’ after just two seasons despite 11 Emmy nods
'Palm Royale' fans are in for a shock as the much-loved high-society dramedy has been canceled after two seasons. Apple TV pulled the plug on the series and has not commented on the reason for the cancellation, as of this writing. Abe Sylvia served as the creator, writer, and showrunner of the series, which was inspired by Juliet McDaniel's 2018 novel 'Mr. & Mrs. American Pie.' The series debuted on Apple TV+ on March 20, 2024, and returned for a second season on November 12, 2025.
Set in 1969, 'Palm Royale' centered on Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons (Kristen Wiig), an ambitious social climber hell-bent on gaining entry into Florida's exclusive beach club, the Palm Royale. Dressed in eye-catching ensembles and accessories, Maxine pushed, charmed, and schemed her way into fulfilling her dream of becoming the queen bee of the elite social group. But all her efforts came crashing down in Season 2 as she suffered a public breakdown and ended up becoming a social pariah. Not one to give up easily, Maxine chose to use her cleverness to prove that she can not only belong, but also rule the town. The title sees her "uncover untold truths and finally understand what this town is truly built on … secrets, lies and the occasional felony,” as per Season 2's official logline.
In addition to Wiig, Oscar winner Allison Janney played the society queen bee Evelyn Rollins, while the comedy legend Carol Burnett starred as wealthy Norma Dellacorte. Josh Lucas as Douglas Darby Dellacorte-Simmons, Laura Dern as Linda Shaw/Penelope Rollins, Ricky Martin as Robert Diaz, Leslie Bibb as Dinah Donahue, Amber Chardae Robinson as Virginia, and Kaia Jordan Gerber as Mitzi rounded out the show's main cast. The final season saw Maxine tying the knot with Robert so that he could get custody of his son. During the ceremony, Norma sang 'Something Good' and then disappeared. Elsewhere, Evelyn and Eddie broke up, while Maxine and Evelyn worked together to get rid of Jed's body. While fans would have loved to see the group of women continue navigating through life, the show will not be renewed for another season.
Both seasons of the comedy-drama series received a lukewarm response from critics. However, the first season of 'Palm Royale' picked up 11 Emmy nominations, and Wiig earned a nomination for 'Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series' at the SAG Awards for Season 2. 'Palm Royale' featured 10 episodes per season, and despite its cancellation, fans can enjoy Maxine's antics in seasons 1 and 2 exclusively on Apple TV+.
