'Chicago Med', 'Chicago Fire' and 'Chicago PD' won't air tonight, but here’s when they return to action
Everyone's favorite first responders from Chicago will not be on duty on April 15, 2026. The three shows comprising the One Chicago franchise, 'Chicago Fire', 'Chicago PD', and 'Chicago Med', are set to go on their final break. However, the break will only last one week, which is great news for fans. The situation is a consequence of NBC's programming change. After all three shows aired their 17th episodes on April 8, 2026, the network still had five more weeks left to fill. However, all three shows now have just four episodes left to air. Thus, it was decided that a one-week break would be incorporated, so that the One Chicago shows could air the remaining batch of episodes without interruptions.

NBC has already confirmed that all three shows will air their season finale on May 13, and a one-week break ensures this. This move seemingly allows the finales to align with the extremely important sweeps week, as per ScreenRant. Sweeps week is essentially the period where network TV advertising rates are determined for the rest of the year. NBC plans to air reruns of the third episode of 'Chicago Med' Season 11, 'Chicago Fire' Season 14, and 'Chicago PD' Season 13 in their regular time slots on April 15.
'Chicago Med' Season 11 will start the proceedings with the episode titled 'Horseshoes and Hand Grenades' at 8 p.m. ET, after which 'Chicago Fire' Season 14's 'In The Blood' will air at 9 p.m. ET. The night will wrap up with 'Chicago PD' Season 13's episode titled 'Canaryville' at 10 p.m. ET. NBC has already released the title and synopsis of new episodes that will be released on April 22, 2026. 'Chicago Med' will come back with 'Things Left Unsaid,' where Gaffney Medical's team will deal with a family's "horrific car accident." 'Chicago Fire' will then return with an episode titled 'Instinct,' where Violet Mikami and Lyla Novak's relationship will take centre stage. 'Chicago PD' will end the night with 'The Wicked River,' where the team will respond to a "deadly house party," which will lead to them uncovering "a family's alarming secret."
NBC has already renewed all three shows for the 2026-2027 TV cycle. This implies that showrunners have plenty of time to shape the narratives for the upcoming seasons. The renewals weren't a surprise as all three shows remain strong performers for NBC, both on linear and streaming. The episode order for the new installments remains under wraps for now. All three shows are being produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, along with Wolf Entertainment.
